The Famous Grouse to sponsor pre-season fixture
The Famous Grouse will be the title sponsor for Glasgow Warriors’ upcoming pre-season fixture with Ulster at Scotstoun, with the two clubs set to compete in The Famous Grouse Pre-Season Challenge.
It will be the second successive season for which the Challenge will be the sole home pre-season match for Dave Rennie’s side, following last summer’s meeting with Harlequins in Perth.
On that occasion, a rampant Warriors side cut loose in the Perthshire sunshine as Man of the Match Niko Matawalu ran in two of his team’s seven tries in an entertaining encounter.
The 2019 edition of The Famous Grouse Pre-Season Challenge will be the first chance for the Warrior Nation to see some of the club’s new arrivals up close, with summer signings like Jamie Dobie, Andrew Davidson and Sean Kennedy amongst those set to be competing for a place in the starting XV.
Led by former Glasgow assistant coach Dan McFarland, Ulster will arrive at Scotstoun a week after the two sides lock horns at the Kingspan Stadium.
Whilst their squad may be shorn of their Irish stars as they prepare for the Rugby World Cup, the Belfast-based outfit will still be able to all upon exciting talents such as Robert Baloucoune and Nick Timoney for the visit to Glasgow.
Glasgow Warriors Managing Director, Nathan Bombrys, said: “The Famous Grouse have been outstanding supporters of the club for the past nine seasons. It’s great news that they will be the title sponsor of our pre-season match against Ulster, our first at Scotstoun for five years.
“The Famous Grouse Pre-Season Challenge was a fantastic occasion in Perth last year, with our supporters turning out in large numbers for an entertaining game of rugby and we’re expecting more of the same when Ulster travel to Glasgow next month.”
Gareth Brown, Marketing Director at Edrington-Beam Suntory UK, said: “We are very excited to bring The Famous Grouse to Scotstoun for yet another season with Glasgow Warriors.
“As the UK’s Number 1 Whisky, we know the hard work and determination it takes to create great whisky, and this is synonymous with the resilience we see with the Glasgow Warriors team each season.
“This pre-season match against Ulster will kick-off what we hope will be another great season for Glasgow.”
