Stewart signs first professional contract with Glasgow Warriors

Grant Stewart has signed his first professional contract with Glasgow Warriors.

The Hooker will graduate from the Fosroc Scottish Rugby Academy on January 1 2019 having committed to the Scotstoun club until 2020.

The 23-year old made his debut away to Leinster in last season’s Heineken Champions Cup and has gone on to play twelve times for the club.

He made his first start against Munster at Thomond Park earlier this season.

Stewart has represented Scotland at U17, U18 and U19 level and was called up as injury cover to the national side on their summer tour of Canada, USA and Argentina.

When not playing for the Warriors, Stewart runs out for Glasgow Hawks in the Tennent’s Premiership where he has played for five years.

He becomes the second graduate from the Fosroc Scottish Rugby Academy this season after Stafford McDowall also signed a professional contract earlier this month.

Tommy Seymour, Oli Kebble, Sam Johnson, George Horne and Adam Hastings have also committed their futures to the club.

Grant Stewart said: “I’m really happy to have signed my first pro deal and I’m excited to be staying at the club for at least the next 18 months.

“I’ve enjoyed the opportunities I have had in a Warriors shirt so far, especially in the big European matches and hopefully there are more to come.”

Glasgow Warriors Head Coach Dave Rennie said: “Grant has been in our environment for a year and a half now and we’ve been impressed with how he’s stepped up when called upon.

“He’s a really exciting, dynamic player, full of potential and adds strength in depth to our hooker position.”
