Squad Update

Glasgow Warriors can confirm that club centurion and Scotland international Gordon Reid has re-joined the squad, with the loosehead prop signing a partnership contract with FOSROC Super6 side Ayrshire Bulls.

32-year-old Reid – who made his Warriors debut away to the Ospreys in March 2011 – racked up 113 appearances during his first stint with the club, playing a key role in Glasgow’s march to the 2015 Guinness PRO12 title in Belfast.

The Ayrshire native joined the Bulls ahead of the inaugural FOSROC Super6 season, following a spell with London Irish.

Reid will remain an Ayrshire Bulls player, but will train with Dave Rennie’s squad and provide valuable cover at loosehead prop for the remainder of the Guinness PRO14 and Heineken Champions Cup campaigns.

“I’m excited to be back at Scotstoun,” said Reid.

“The club means a great deal to me, so I’m happy to have signed a partnership contract until the end of the season.

“There are a few familiar faces and I’m looking forward to getting to know the new boys too.

“I’ll still be playing for The Ayrshire Bulls, but will also be available for the Warriors, so it’s a win-win situation.”

The club is also able to confirm that hooker Johnny Matthews has signed an extension to his contract, keeping him with the club until the end of the 2019/20 season.

The 26-year-old initially joined the Warriors from Boroughmuir on a three-month deal, and has impressed in his outings so far this campaign.

Born in Liverpool and a former Scotland U18 cap, Matthews made his competitive Glasgow debut in the opening match of the season away to the Toyota Cheetahs in Bloemfontein.

“I’m delighted to be staying with the Warriors,” said the hooker.

“To be able to learn from established internationals and from coaches of the quality we have here at Scotstoun is a huge opportunity for me, and I’ve really enjoyed my time with the club so far.

“Hopefully I can continue to learn and push for selection over the course of the season.”

Meanwhile, hooker Jack Iscaro has returned to parent club Old Glory DC following the conclusion of his time at Scotstoun.

The club would to wish Jack well for the new season, as he and his team-mates prepare for their debut Major League Rugby campaign.

Speaking to glasgowwarriors.org, Glasgow Warriors assistant coach John Dalziel said: “We’re happy to have Gordy back involved with us at Scotstoun.

“He’s a quality international who’s just come off the back of a World Cup, and it’s great to have him back in training with us alongside his contract with Ayrshire Bulls.

“Johnny’s come in and done a great job – he’s continually driving towards improving himself as a full-time professional.

“He’s made a great contribution to our environment and has a strong set-piece, and he’s definitely a player that suits the style of rugby we want to play.

“We’d like to thank Jack – he’s used every second of his time here to try and increase his skill set, and we look forward to following his progress over the course of the season.”

Both Reid and Matthews will be in FOSROC Super6 action this weekend – the Bulls host Watsonians at Millbrae on Saturday (kick-off 3pm), whilst the Bears welcome Southern Knights to Meggetland on Sunday (kick-off 2pm).
