Shortlist announced for McCrea Financial Services Warrior of the Month for November

A quartet of Glasgow stars are in contention to take home the McCrea Financial Services Warrior of the Month award for November, after a month that saw Franco Smith’s men go unbeaten as they moved to the top of the BKT United Rugby Championship standings.

The Warriors claimed 19 points from a possible 20 in a memorable month, including three wins from three at home to extend an unbeaten run at Scotstoun to a club-record streak of 19 matches in succession.

A 20-9 win over the DHL Stormers was followed up by a 31-23 victory on the road to the Ospreys, before back-to-back bonus-point triumphs over Benetton and Ulster saw Glasgow finish the month on the highest of notes in front of the Warrior Nation.

Supporters have until 4pm on Friday 1 December to cast their vote via the club’s official Twitter account.

The nominees are:

Matt Fagerson

A totemic defensive shift saw back-rower Fagerson come to the fore across November, featuring in all four of the club’s fixtures during the month.

The Scotland international was a three-time winner of the KubeNet Defender of the Week accolade during November, making a total of 54 tackles across the wins over the Stormers, Ospreys and Benetton.

Fagerson was also to the fore in victory over Ulster, making the joint-highest number of carries alongside fellow back-rower Jack Dempsey.

Stafford McDowall

Having captained the Warriors in all four of their November outings, McDowall made his presence felt across the BKT URC in Glasgow colours.

The centre’s kicking game was a key weapon in victory over the Stormers at Scotstoun, whilst his calm head and defensive nous was to the fore on the road in Swansea.

McDowall also picked up his first-ever Player of the Match award in the home win over Benetton, whilst becoming the fastest Warriors captain to ever reach 10 victories when leading his side to victory over Ulster in just his 11th match as captain.

Sean Kennedy

Propelled into the spotlight after Jamie Dobie’s injury away to the Ospreys, the experienced figure of Kennedy reminded the Warrior Nation of his talents during a busy November for the Alloa native.

The scrum-half helped to guide his team to victory in Swansea, before coming off the bench to help secure the win over Benetton a week later in front of the Warrior Nation.

He then made his first start in front of supporters at Scotstoun for 11 years in Saturday’s win over Ulster, marking the occasion with a classic scrum-half snipe to score just his second try in Glasgow colours.

Zander Fagerson

Scotland tight-head Fagerson joins brother Matt amongst the quartet shortlisted for the November award, having anchored the scrum in two big victories at Scotstoun.

The 2021 British and Irish Lion was in the thick of the action in the win over the Stormers, helping his side gain the upper hand in the battle of the packs in front of the Warrior Nation.

He then became the only player to deny his brother KubeNet Defender of the Week honours, making 17 tackles and winning three turnovers in victory over Ulster on Saturday night.
