Seymour: Every team wants to play at home in a Semi-Final

Tommy Seymour is calling on the Warrior Nation to turn out in force for this Friday’s crucial Guinness PRO14 Semi-Final, with Dave Rennie’s men preparing to face defending champions Scarlets at Scotstoun.

The Nashville-born Scotland winger paid tribute to the supporters’ dedication throughout the season, expressing his delight at securing a home tie in the Final Series.

“We’ve looked at making Scotstoun a fortress and I think, both with the performances on the pitch and with the support of the fans, we’ve done that this season,” said Seymour.

“We’ve won 49 out of a possible 50 points here this year, which we’re really pleased with.

“Every team wants to play at home in a Semi-Final – it’s an extra game in front of your fans. We’re chuffed to bits with that, and we want to keep our run going.”

Despite coming into the match off the back of two successive defeats, Seymour is unfazed ahead of the club’s biggest game of the season so far. Having played a key role in the club’s march a first league title in 2014/15, the British and Irish Lion admitted that there is a strong desire within the squad to match that feat three years later.

He said: “Going into the tail end of the season teams will look to build momentum through results, but when you get down to the crux of the matter it’s knockout rugby from here on in.

“It puts a different spin on things, and finals rugby is a different kettle of fish.

“Every team’s aim at the start of the year is to win the league, and ours is no different. We’ve tasted success a few years ago, and the boys are desperate to do it again.”

However, Seymour is under no illusions as to the scale of the task that lies in wait for the Warriors on Friday night, with the Welsh side coming to Scotstoun as defending champions and European Rugby Champions Cup semi-finalists. Wayne Pivac’s side also proved too strong in their only meeting with Glasgow in the regular season, a fact Seymour and his team-mates will be looking to rectify in front of their home supporters.

He said: “You try and take key points out of every game you play, but obviously having lost down at Parc y Scarlets the last time we played them we’ll be looking at that footage to see what we did wrong, and what they did right.

“I’ve no doubt in my mind that Scarlets will be coming here looking to retain their title, but fingers crossed it will be a different result this weekend.”

With previous Semi-Finals at Scotstoun having proven to be amongst the most memorable occasions in the club’s history, the stage is set for another titanic encounter on Friday evening. For Seymour, the key will once again be the vocal support of the Warrior Nation.

“The fans are imperative in making this place a fortress,” said Seymour.

“It’s their team, their stadium and their voices really push us over the line. They’ve been fantastic, and it’s great that we’ve been able to up the capacity to 10,000 for this weekend.

“We’ll be looking for them to come out in their droves and get us over that line again.”
