Seven Glasgow prospects in Scotland U20 squad

Scotland U20 Head Coach Sean Lineen has selected seven Glasgow Warriors prospects in his squad for the upcoming U20 Six Nations, as a 32-man playing group prepares for the condensed competition.

All matches in the tournament will be played at Cardiff Arms Park from 19 June – 13 July, with matchday squads consisting of 26 players rather than the usual 23 due to the compressed nature of the new format.

Alex Samuel will lead Lineen’s squad into the championship, having impressed in training with Glasgow Warriors this season in addition to being invited to train with the senior Scotland squad ahead of this year’s Guinness Six Nations.

Fellow second-rower Max Williamson joins Samuel in the squad, continuing the developing partnership that has seen the pair progress through the FOSROC Scottish Rugby Academy system.

Rory Jackson makes up the triumvirate of Glaasgow-aligned forwards selected, with the Ayrshire Bulls man looking to make an impression from the back-row.

Behind the scrum, fly-half Euan Cunningham is selected as one of the options at number 10 by Lineen, with Michael Gray- aligned to Boroughmuir Bears in last season’s FOSROC Super6 – selected in the midfield.

The Glasgow contingent is completed by back-three prospects Finlay Callaghan and Ollie Melville, as attentions turn to the first U20 international window since the 2020 U20 Six Nations.

Every match will be broadcast in each of the Six Nations territories either on terrestrial TV, national broadcaster streaming platforms or via Six Nations digital channels.

Scotland U20 Head Coach Sean Lineen said: “Over the last few months we have been preparing well for this tournament with a number of camps and sessions focusing on player development both on and off the pitch.

“Last month we had two training games against our English counterparts which were positive, they were useful exercises in game management and seeing how different combinations of players worked together.

“With just over two weeks until the opening fixture against Ireland the squad will assemble for one further training camp before we travel down to Cardiff.

“This squad have worked tirelessly over the last few months, there were some tough selection calls to make but we know that this group of players are set to play an exciting brand of rugby.”
