Scotland Women to host Canada Women at Scotstoun

Scotland Women will host Canada Women this November as part of a celebration of women and girls’ rugby at Scotstoun Stadium.

The international will be played on Tuesday 27 November (kick-off 7pm) and will follow the Girls Schools Cup Finals Day as the best U18 and U15 school sides take to the field before the international sides.

Scottish Rugby’s Head of Women & Girls Rugby, Gemma Fay, said: “We are delighted to give fans a chance to join in this celebration of women and girls’ rugby this autumn.

“The game is growing at every level for female players and we’re delighted to be showcasing the highest level of girls’ schools’ rugby alongside this important fixture for Scotland Women ahead of the Six Nations, and as we work towards qualification for Women’s Rugby World Cup 2021.

“We are looking forward to a great set of games and seeing the current and future stars of Scottish rugby in action.”

Scotland Women Head Coach, Shade Munro, said: “To progress as a team, it’s vital we test ourselves against some of the best sides in the world and play more quality sides, more frequently.

“Increasing our game time means we can continue to shape this hard-working and exciting group of players as we build towards the Six Nations and, ultimately, qualification for the World Cup.”

Visitors, Canada Women, are ranked fourth in the world and finished fifth in the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2017 in Ireland, beating Australia in their final match.

The sides have met on five previous occasions with Canada winning the last four following the Scots’ 11-5 victory in 1994.

Munro added: “Canada have shown time and again they can compete at the highest level and we’re delighted to be welcoming them to Scotstoun this November.”

Tickets for the day, which include access to Scotland’s home international versus Canada Women and both schools’ finals, will be available from 10am on Monday 10 September for Glasgow Warriors Season Ticket and Warrior Nation Members, Scotland Season Pass holders and Edinburgh Rugby Season Ticket Members.

Tickets will then be on general sale the following week at 10am on Monday 17 September. Participants of the schools’ finals will be communicated with directly regarding access to tickets. For more information visit scottishrugby.org.
