Scotland call for Glasgow quartet
Four further Glasgow Warriors have been added to the Scotland squad ahead of this Sunday’s clash with France in Paris, making it 13 of the club’s finest who will be competing for selection over the coming week.
Amongst the
new additions to the squad is 19-year-old scrum-half Jamie Dobie, with the
Inverness native officially added to a senior Scotland squad for the first time
in his professional career.
The
University of Strathclyde student – who was invited to train with the men in
blue prior to the historic victory over England earlier this month – becomes the
youngest back to be selected in a Scotland squad by Gregor Townsend, another
indication as to the talent at the scrum-half’s disposal.
It’s the
latest step in a meteoric rise for the number nine, who only made his first
start in a Glasgow Warriors jersey a year ago today; indeed, he made it a start
to remember, walking away with the Player of the Match award in last February’s
win over the Dragons at Scotstoun.

At the other
end of the experience spectrum, Rob Harley is recalled to the Scotland setup
after being involved in the autumn, coming off the bench in October’s 48-7 win
over Georgia at BT Murrayfield.
The flanker
will be hoping to add to his 22 caps to date, with his last Guinness Six
Nations appearance coming against Ireland in 2019.
If he can
make the same impact as he did on his Scotland debut in 2012, then fans and
coaches will be beaming from ear to ear come full-time in Paris; a then-22-year-old
Harley galloped over for the winning try against Samoa after coming off the
bench in Apia.
There’s also
a return to the international stage for two of Scotland’s most established
performers in recent seasons in the form of Adam Hastings and Sam Johnson, with
the pair looking to impress after returning from injury.
Hastings –
who made his comeback in Glasgow’s Friday night defeat to Ulster at Scotstoun –
played a part in each of Scotland’s matches in the 2020 Guinness Six Nations,
including a try-scoring display against Italy in Rome and an impressive all-round
performance in the win over France at BT Murrayfield.
Meanwhile,
Johnson’s 2019 heroics will live long in the memory of Scotland supporters – a
try against Ireland in Edinburgh was followed by that score at
Twickenham, powering over in the 38-38 draw with England.

The quartet
join nine of their club colleagues in the updated squad, with Oli Kebble,
George Turner, Scott Cummings, Richie Gray, Matt Fagerson, Ali Price and Huw
Jones all having seen game time in the opening two matches of the championship.
Grant
Stewart and D’arcy Rae round out the Glasgow contingent, with the front-row duo
looking to put themselves in the mix for the trip to the Stade de France on
Sunday evening.
Gregor Townsend has named his Scotland squad to prepare for next weekend’s #GuinnessSixNations match against @FranceRugby in Paris.
