Price voted McCrea Financial Services Player of the Season

Glasgow Warriors scrum-half Ali Price has been voted the 2018/19 McCrea Financial Services Player of the Season.

Glasgow Warriors scrum-half Ali Price has been voted the 2018/19 McCrea Financial Services Player of the Season.

The 25-year-old, who has made 18 appearances to date in this campaign, was presented with his award at the club’s annual Awards Dinner at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Glasgow this evening.

It is the second time Price has been voted the club’s Player of the Season by the Warrior Nation, having previously taken the prize in 2016/17.

One of eight nominees shortlisted by the Warriors’ coaching staff, the Scotland international has been an integral part of the club’s run to the Guinness PRO14 Final Series and Heineken Champions Cup quarter-finals.

His try against Edinburgh last weekend – rapturously received by the Scotstoun faithful – was his seventh of the season, whilst Price’s speed of service and game intelligence have been a key component of Glasgow’s season.

Ali Price said: “It’s a huge honour to win this award and I’d like to thank the supporters who voted for me.

“We’re excited to be in the Guinness PRO14 semi-final, but we have a lot of hard work ahead of us over the next few weeks.

“It would be amazing to play in the Guinness PRO14 Final at Celtic Park later this month in front of our own supporters, but our focus is on preparing for the semi-final in a couple of weeks.”

There was also success for the club’s most-capped player, as Rob Harley took home a brace of awards in front of nearly 500 people.

The tough-tackling flanker was presented with the Denholm Oilfield Services Player’s Player of the Season award, having come out on top following a squad vote.

Having made his 200th appearance for the Warriors earlier this season, his ability to play in both the second-row and back-row has been an invaluable tool for Dave Rennie and his coaching team this campaign.

Harley’s continued contribution to the club was further recognised by the club’s coaches, with the former West of Scotland man also walking away with the Famous Grouse Coaches Award after consistently impressing on and off the field.

Stafford McDowall’s memorable 2018/19 campaign was capped off with the Land Rover Young Player of the Season award, after a string of impressive performances over the course of the campaign.

The centre’s form not only earned him a first professional contract in December, but saw him called into Gregor Townsend’s Scotland training squad ahead of this year’s Guinness Six Nations.

After a season that saw him go from strength to strength, Scott Cummings was presented with the Mackenzie Construction Most Improved Player of the Season award after a series of noteworthy performances from the 22-year-old second-row.

Co-captain Ryan Wilson took home the Al Kellock Leadership Award, sponsored by the Malcolm Group, with the back-rower having led from the front over the course of the season.

Sam Johnson’s memorable emergence as an international centre saw him named as the Harper Macleod Test Player of the Season, following a scintillating debut Guinness Six Nations campaign, which included a try at Twickenham that will live long in the memory of Scotland supporters worldwide.

The SP Energy Networks Community Club of the Season was awarded to Lenzie RFC, whose work in both competition and within their local community saw them recognised by the judging panel.
