“To come out on top after a game like that is great!” | George Horne

Glasgow Warriors started the 1872 Cup games strong with a 22-10 win over Edinburgh at Scotstoun. The first of two games played over the Christmas period, a win gives Glasgow that all important edge heading into the second game.

George Horne spoke to glasgowarriors.org following the match, “First of all, it’s always good to get the win.

“It’s always a tough battle against Edinburgh.  The conditions were pretty dreadful, which didn’t make for the most exciting game, but the physicality from both teams was outstanding.  To come out on top after a game like that is great!”

Both teams are no strangers to playing one another, with many on both being teammates for Scotland during the International season.

“We each know each other really well, so you kind of know what’s coming.  I think with the weather, neither team really got into their attack the way they would like.  But the forward pack were so physical, and it was great.  The backs probably didn’t get into the game as much as they would like but it’s a great battle and awesome to get the win.”

This is only the first leg of the Cup games, with the second being played at Scottish Gas Murrayfield on Saturday 30 December.  Horne alluded to the fact that it is only half time in the wider game.

“As Franco kind of touched on (after the game), it’s just half time.  It’s half time and we are winning but we still have the second half to go.

“A good few days off to enjoy Christmas and then on to try and back it up next weekend.  We don’t just want the win and the cup but the league points too to take us into the New Year.”

As always, the Warrior Nation were out in force despite the weather.  Scotstoun was a sellout and the fans were loud from start to finish. Horne finished by thanking fans for their support.

“Last week as well in Bayonne they were awesome and then tonight you could hear them in the pouring rain! It really helps us do well at home and I just hope everyone has a great Christmas and hopefully we will see some of the Warrior Nation in the stands next week at Murrayfield.”
