“Such an unreal win to get away from home” | Gregor Brown

16 Dec 2023

Glasgow Warriors travelled to France and held Aviron Bayonnais to a close match to come away with the all important win in the Investec Champions Cup.

Gregor Brown caught up with glasgowwarriors.org after the match was full of smiles and praise for his teammates and

“Obviously it’s such an unreal win to get away from home. Bouncing back from last week. What else should I say? The way it just came down right to the end as well.

“It was very physical, they definitely challenged us up front, especially in the first half. And it was really pleasing to see that we had a plan in defence and that we were able to stick to that and we got our rewards which allowed us to launch our attack from that.”

Ally Miller scored not only a cracker of a try (his first for Glasgow) he also won Player of the Match.  Speaking on this, Brown said “I didn’t know he had that pace on him!

“I just watched the video back, and I didn’t realise that the winger was on the inside of him as well and he just did it on the outside.

“Unreal, Ally was unreal all day. In attack and defence and very deserving man of the match.”

This was the first time in 10 years featuring a back-row that didn’t have an international cap.  Brown was clear that this was something that wasn’t going to stop them and that they had prepared for during the week.

“It was something we spoke about during the week, none of us have really started together recently.  But to just bring that energy today and just bring it over the line just makes it all that sweeter.”

Glasgow Warriors are now to face Edinburgh twice before the end of the year with the 1872 Cup games beginning on Friday 22 December. Looking ahead to this Brown highlights how much the squad are ready for it.

“Celebrate a little bit and then back to it. We don’t really need much motivation to get up for the Edinburgh matches.  We will review this Monday then crack into the week.

Finally, the support from the Warrior Nation both at home and away was spectacular as always.

“Thanks for everyone who was watching at home and to everyone who came over.  It was great to see you all at the end.  It was an awesome atmosphere and having some of our own fans in the stand is great!”
