Scotstoun Primary School pupils fundraise for Australia

Yet away from the pandemonium of the action under the Scotstoun floodlights, another group was making a difference in their own way.

Eight pupils from Scotstoun Primary School decided to do their bit to help the ongoing relief effort in Australia, holding a bake sale to raise money to help wildlife ravaged by the country’s bush fires.

Scarlett Caddis, Lucy Cochrane, Rowan Calvert, Cara McBain, Rowan McGuire, Rebecca O’Callaghan, Hannah Liston and Poppy Maguire braved Glasgow’s typical January weather and set about their work with aplomb, with both sets of fans
digging deep to help in the fundraising effort.

Cara’s mother, Wilma Shepherd, said: “None of the parents are particularly politically motivated but the girls see the news and they saw what was happening in Australia and felt quite strongly about what was happening to the koalas
and kangaroos.

“They wanted to do something, and they all have a love of baking as well, so they combined the two.

“Both sets of fans were very, very generous. Some even came back and bought more after going to the ground early.

“A group of eight and nine-year-old girls are quite vocal and very persuasive, so I don’t think anyone passing by was in with a chance of getting away scot-free!”

The result? A hugely impressive £625 donated to their chosen cause, and a host of rugby fans fully appreciative of the group’s baking talents.
