SA Tour Diary | Jamie Dobie

In his second and final column from inside camp in South Africa, get the inside track from Jamie Dobie...

Honestly. Murphy Walker.

I’ve got to hand it to Murphy, because he got me good! He clearly latched on to me having a dig at him in last week’s blog (cheers for the read, Murph!) and decided he wasn’t going to stand for it. He caught me at the wrong time and he took full advantage of the opportunity. Although I still think he’d definitely been into the room beforehand and added a few things… It’s all in good fun though. It’s good to have that type of environment in camp, and we do genuinely get along really well – sushi night still happened, it’s all good!

Speaking of sushi, that was incredible. We went and tried one of the places that a few of the boys had recommended and honestly, it was amazing. The quality of sushi was something else, it was so good. Being able to get out with the boys and try these places, that’s been a really nice part of being in camp here in Stellenbosch.

The South African people have been fantastic with us, too. The welcome we’ve had throughout our fortnight here has been brilliant, and a massive thank you to all of the staff here in Stellenbosch because they’ve been incredible with us. Everyone’s genuinely interested in how you’re doing, what you’re up to and so on, it’s been a great couple of weeks.

We had some time to recharge after the Stormers game as a group, which was ideal really. We needed that time together to stick together and just reflect and reset after the game on Friday, get that out of our system and move on. A few of the boys went golfing, and a few of them went into Cape Town with the idea of heading up Table Mountain. The weather had other ideas though, the wind was too strong for the cable car to open! It was really good to have that break to get our minds refreshed though, and refocus ahead of tomorrow night.

Obviously we were disappointed with the way the Stormers game went, because for the best part of the first 35 minutes or so we were putting them under a lot of pressure. They grew into the game and we didn’t, really. Training this week has been going really well, though. It’s been hard, it’s been focused and we know that we need to go and give everything we have against the Bulls. They’re on form at home and it’ll be important for us to front up and show what we’re all about. If we do that, then we’ll put ourselves in the best possible position to get the win that we want
