Rennie rues missed opportunity

Three tries
from the Scarlets in eight second-half minutes ultimately decided the contest
in favour of the West Walians, who came away with a 25-21 victory over their
opponents.

“Conceding
three tries in such quick succession, all from situations where we made errors,
really hurt us,” said Rennie.

“It’s
incredibly disappointing.

“I’m rapt
with the character the boys showed at the end there – at 25-9 we looked dead. We
got ourselves in a position where we could and maybe should have won it, which
was pleasing, but we made too many errors.”

The Glasgow
boss also highlighted errors made at key times, ruefully reflecting on a
comeback attempt that ultimately ended in vain.

“I felt we
carried well and got in behind them in the first half, and then we’d make an error,”
said Rennie.

“We got points
when they were on offer and exited well, but we’ve still got to communicate
better and make better decisions.

“It’s
frustrating, because we handed it to them in that eight-minute spell.”

However, Rennie
and his coaching staff are refusing to press the panic button after the
disappointing opening to the campaign, instead focusing on next week’s meeting with
Cardiff Blues in front of the Warrior Nation.

“We always
knew it would be a tough draw to start,” said Rennie.

“Cheetahs
away, when they’ve just come off the Currie Cup and are well oiled, was always
going to be tough, but we were poor last week. I thought we were better this
week, and we showed a lot of fight.

“We want to
win though, and we’ll keep working hard. We’ll sit down and watch the Edinburgh
take on Cardiff tomorrow and start building towards next weekend.

“This
competition is 21 rounds long, though, so there’s no panic from us.”
