Rennie rues missed opportunities

Glasgow Warriors Head Coach Dave Rennie paid tribute to Leinster’s defensive effort, following his side’s 23-10 defeat to the Irish side at Scotstoun.

Despite
taking an early lead through a Ruaridh Jackson brace, it was the defending
Guinness PRO14 champions who emerged victorious on a cold evening in Glasgow’s
west end.

“You have to
look at the quality of the opposition,” said Rennie.

“We made a
lot of line breaks, we got in behind them a lot and they scrambled very well. We
couldn’t get the ball beyond the full-back, and that just gave them the
opportunity to bring it back.

“We didn’t convert
enough of our line breaks, which is frustrating. You’ve got to give Leinster credit
for scrambling as well as they did, though.”

Despite the
support of a capacity crowd at Scotstoun, the Warriors ultimately left empty-handed
from their meeting with the men in blue, as Leo Cullen’s men kept the home side
scoreless in the second-half.

“We had a
good start tonight, but they had a couple of opportunities and took them well,”
said Rennie.

“They did a
great job in slowing our ball down tonight – they put a wall up in front of us.
We had a couple of defensive lapses, and they took full advantage.

“They can
strangle you and a few errors and a couple of penalties given away killed us.”
