Dominant at scrum time and providing his backs with front foot ball, Rennie’s forwards laid the foundation for a bonus point victory to kick off Glasgow’s 2018/19 Guinness PRO14 campaign.

Three of Glasgow’s four tries came from members of the pack. A driving maul marched its way over the line in the second half as Adam Ashe dropped over the line which kick-started Warriors’ fight back from nine points down.

The Head Coach had to endure a nervy finish at the Sportsground as his side survived a late drop goal and penalty attempt to hang on to victory.

“I would’ve preferred we closed the game out, but that’s not the way we do things” He joked after the match. “We’ll keep everyone entertained for an extra three or four minutes.

“In the end it was a fair result with the kick missing. We know it’s not how you start the season, it’s how you finish. To get five points away from home is important. Some other sides will come here and struggle.”

With fly-half Adam Hastings sent to the sin-bin for 10 minutes and his side chasing the game, Rennie was impressed with how his 14 men knuckled down when their backs were against the wall.

“The boys won that period Adam was in the sin-bin – that was crucial, we scored the try that got us back into the game when down to fourteen and defensively controlled that ten minutes really well.”

“We did a lot of good stuff first-half but lacked a little bit of patience. Maybe we tried to move the ball too wide, too quickly at times and turned it over. To Connacht’s credit they kept coming and every time they got down our end they got rewarded.”
