Rennie rapt with bonus-point victory
27 Apr 2019
The Warriors ran in four tries in a bonus-point 34-10 victory over their cross-country rivals, in front of a capacity crowd of 10,000 in Glasgow’s West End.
“It was a really good performance,” said Rennie.
“We played without the ball for a lot of time and came under a lot of pressure, but I thought our defence was outstanding and we were clinical with our opportunities.
“I thought our resilience was excellent. When you consider the number of our big guys that are out at the minute, it just shows the character of this team – there are no excuses and they front up no matter who’s putting on the jersey. Tom Gordon, for example, was outstanding tonight.
“I’m rapt we won.”
The Warriors have now won eight successive matches in the Guinness PRO14, a run of form that has been critical in securing back-to-back home semi-finals.
“It’s a totally different atmosphere to last year,” said Rennie.
“When we lost to Benetton in January, we knew we’d probably have to win every game to have a shot of topping the conference.
“It put pressure on us and we’ve made good shifts in our attack since Saracens. It’s given us more of an edge and we saw that tonight.”
Rennie and his players will now focus all their attention on the upcoming semi-final clash at Scotstoun, which will take place on Friday 17 May (kick-off 7.35pm). The Warriors will face either Ulster or Connacht for a place at Celtic Park in the Guinness PRO14 Final, as they continue the hunt for a second league title.
“Once you get through to the knockout stages, everyone’s got a chance,” said Rennie.
“Connacht will throw everything at Ulster next week, I’m sure about that.
“We’re rapt to be back here for the semi-final though, no matter who we’ll be playing.”
