Price calls for response ahead of Bulls trip

Ali Price echoed the frustration of the Warrior Nation after last night’s defeat to the DHL Stormers in Cape Town, highlighting the “non-negotiable” need to bounce back ahead of next weekend’s clash with the Vodacom Bulls at Loftus Versfeld.

Despite taking the lead through Jack Dempsey’s 19th minute try, an offensive onslaught from the hosts saw the South African outfit run in four tries to claim a 32-7 win at DHL Stadium.

Captain for the evening, the scrum-half’s disappointment was evident as he reflected on proceedings post-match.

“We were targeting a win going into that game, so to come away with nothing and a result like that hurts,” Price told glasgowwarriors.org.

“While you have to give credit to the Stormers for some of the rugby they played, we let them into the match by making far too many errors. We’ve let ourselves down on that front tonight. The conditions were great so we had no excuse.

“For the first half of that game we managed things pretty well – the Stormers brought something different in defence, but we stuck in with them.

“We were well in the match at half-time, despite the Stormers having momentum. We spoke about being ruthless in their half and we just weren’t – we coughed up the ball too easily and they capitalised.”

Despite having a selection of half-chances across the match, the Warriors were unable to add to Dempsey’s first-half score, a source of further frustration for price and his team-mates.

The scrum-half is confident in his side’s ability to come together in response to the defeat, however, backing the cohesion within the squad to help aid preparations for next weekend.

“We know when we play our game that we can cause any team trouble, which makes it more frustrating for us,” said Price.

“We’ll stick together as a group – we’re a long way from home and we’ve got each other’s backs, and we’ll challenge ourselves to bounce back like we know we can.

“We’ll review the match over the next day or so, take the feedback on board and work out where each of us can be better.”

Defeat in Cape Town, coupled with other results across the URC, means that Glasgow Warriors slip outside the top four ahead of Round 17, a fact that makes next weekend’s trip to Pretoria even more significant.

“Bouncing back next weekend is now non-negotiable for us,” said Price.

“The table is so tightly-packed in the top half, and we’ve got two massive games left for us to make sure we put ourselves in the best possible position for the end of the season.

“We want to be top-four and earn that home knockout tie, and that has to start next weekend.”
