McKay “absolutely stoked” with win on return

Josh McKay laughs as he’s asked to talk through his try in the wake of last night’s victory over the Vodacom Bulls.

After four months on the sidelines after off-season surgery, the full-back’s emotion was clear for all to see as he touched down in front of the East Stand – a score the man himself described in his own inimitable style.

“I was absolutely frothing to be honest!” a grinning McKay told glasgowwarriors.org.

“As soon as I got over the line, I just instinctively threw the arm up, then realised ‘jeez I haven’t put it down yet’!

“If you wanted to know how excited I was to be back in the black jersey again, though, that was just a snapshot of what this club means to me.”

Playing with a smile on his face, McKay was just one of a host of Warriors to turn in commanding performances as the Bulls were put to the sword in front of the Scotstoun faithful.

It was a team performance that meant everything to the full-back and his team-mates, showcasing what Glasgow rugby is all about.

“I’m absolutely stoked to be back out there finally,” said McKay.

“I want to give a massive shout out to the medical team – they’ve done a bloody good job over the last four months to get me back fully fit and ready to go.

“We’re stoked to put in a performance like that in front of our fans, especially against a team like the Bulls. We know we can still be a lot better – we left a few chances out there and we could really have put them away in the second half.

“That’ll be a good work-on for us in the next week before we go to South Africa, but we’ve shown we can front up physically with the biggest team in the league. Now we just need to go out there and back it up again.

“I honestly can’t put into words how much it means to be back out there again. I was absolutely loving it.”

With the result extending Glasgow’s unbeaten run at Scotstoun in the URC to eight matches, McKay was also quick to underline the impact of the Warrior Nation.

As the squad now prepares for a South African double-header, the full-back is calling on his squad-mates to back it up in the Rainbow Nation.

“The fans are absolutely incredible,” said McKay.

“I don’t know what the official attendance was, but it sounds like there’s about 10,000 in the crowd when it’s like that. It’s bloody awesome. Scotstoun was absolutely rocking and the boys properly feed off that.

“We’re going down to South Africa to play some footy. We want to put in a couple of performances like that one, and if we do that then we’ll come home happy.”
