“I am excited to give 100% of myself!” – Sebastián Cancielliere

Glasgow Warriors has a history of bringing Argentinian players to the west of Scotland, who go on to become a part of the very fabric of the club.

With three new signings from Los Pumas arriving at Scotstoun this season, and last, this history is not something lost on prop Enrique Pieretto, fly-half Domingo Miotto, and winger Sebastián Cancelliere.

For Cancelliere, a back three player, he joins the likes of winger Federico Aramburu – who made 41 appearances for the club – and full-back Bernardo Stortoni – who pulled on the Glasgow jersey 96 timesplying his trade at The Warriors, and it was those players’ experiences that convinced him to make the move.

He said: “I knew some of the Argentinian players that played here before and they told me it was a really professional team – a team that are serious about what they do and with great people. Federico and Stortoni said that everyone was kind and I think they were right.”

Having spent his first few days with the club in block one of pre-season – which came to its conclusion last week – Cancelliere has now experienced the club culture for himself.

He continued: “It’s been a great first week. All the guys have been really nice to me. I felt like I was one of them, even when I had met them just for three or four days, which explains how they feel. They really are great guys.

“We had good running sessions, mixed with games and fitness. I haven’t done much on the structures that Glasgow play yet, but that will be in block two next week. From what I have practiced I know Glasgow like to play quickly and make decisions on the field, which is rugby for me.”

For the 27-year-old, the rest of the summer is now about getting down to business. Glasgow’s season gets underway in September and Cancelliere has the added excitement of being named in the Pumas squad for the forthcoming Rugby Championship.

He said: “I am really excited about playing for my country again and I look forward to seeing the boys. I hope to play really well.

“Then when I come back, personally I want to play as much as I can and leave everything I have out there for the team, so that they are really happy having me. I am excited to give 100% of myself!”
