Horne ready to royally entertain on Scotstoun return

31 Oct 2019

His last start saw him score a memorable hat-trick in Shizuoka as Scotland ran out convincing winners against Russia – now George Horne is raring to go ahead of his return to Scotstoun.

The
24-year-old will make his first Glasgow Warriors appearance of the new season,
having been named alongside fellow returning Scotland international Adam
Hastings in the starting XV.

Despite the
weather being decidedly chillier than what was experienced in Japan, Horne
admits that he’s enjoying being back in familiar surroundings.

“I’m quite
glad to be back in the cold to be honest – I was getting sick of the heat!”
quipped the scrum-half.

“It’s really
good to be back home, in all seriousness. I was off last week and did a bit of
training on my own, but I’ve been back in properly this week and really
enjoying it.

“I went back
down to Howe of Fife last weekend and had a good catch up with everyone down
there as well. They beat Perthshire last weekend too – they’re going really
well at the minute, which is great to see.”

After
reaching last season’s Guinness PRO14 Final at Celtic Park – en route to which
Horne helped himself to nine tries – it’s been a slow start to the 2019/20
campaign for the Warriors, yet the livewire number nine is fully dialled in
ahead of his return to action in a Glasgow shirt.

“I can’t
wait to get back into the thick of it,” he said.

“I’m
delighted to be back playing for Glasgow – I have a lot of fun playing here,
and I’m excited to get out there tomorrow night.

“The results
haven’t been going our way, but it’s been really good to see the young boys
like Jamie Dobie and George Thornton coming through and making their mark on
the squad.

“Nick
[Frisby] and Jamie have done really well, in my opinion – they’ve performed
really well so far this season.”

A first
visit to Glasgow since 2017 by the Southern Kings will provide the Warriors
with their next test in the Guinness PRO14, as Dave Rennie’s squad returns to
Scotstoun for their first home fixture in three weeks. After suffering defeat
in Port Elizabeth last season, Horne is under no illusion as to what is
required tomorrow night.

“We know
we’ve got a few wrongs to right from last year, as well as from our
performances at the start of this season,” said the scrum-half.

“We’re going
to be heading out there and looking to put in a good performance in front of
our fans.

“For me,
I’ve got a bit more experience now and I just want to play as well as I can and
hopefully get a good run of games starting with tomorrow night.

“We know
that we’ve got to step it up and start closing the gap to the leaders in our
conference, and that should bring out the best in us. We just want to get out
and show what we’re capable of.”

There are some good seats still available for tomorrow night’s game, which sees the Southern Kings from South Africa visit Glasgow for only the second time. To secure your tickets, click here.
