FOSROC Super6 Sprint Series | Week Three Warriors

2 May 2022

Glasgow Warriors players aplenty were on show across round three of the 2022 FOSROC Super6 Sprint Series this weekend, as the competition continued to gather pace.

A total of 18
members of the Scotstoun playing group – including 15 Scottish Rugby Academy
talents – turned out for their respective Super6 franchises across the weekend,
each playing their part on a highly competitive weekend of rugby.

Southern Knights 10-24 Stirling County

Stirling County made it back-to-back victories in this year’s Sprint Series, earning a bonus-point win over last season’s beaten finalists at the Greenyards.

The Bridgehaugh outfit were able to call upon the services of three Warriors in the starting XV, with Scotland U20 duo Euan Cunningham and Ross McKnight joining Tongan international Walter Fifita in the back-line.

Two further Glasgow representatives were named amongst the replacements, with Angus Fraser and Mike Gray both making an appearance from the bench.

It would be McKnight would make the biggest impact for those in red, white and black, the winger dotting down in the corner for his second try in as many outings for County.

Boroughmuir Bears 0-15 Watsonians

It was a tough afternoon at Meggetland for the six Glasgow Warriors players on show for Boroughmuir Bears, as the home side were held scoreless by a victorious Watsonians outfit.

All six were to be found in the starting XV, with Euan Ferrie and Hamish Bain forming an all-Glasgow partnership in the second-row.

Gregor Brown continued his comeback from injury in the back-row, joining Scotland U20 captain and openside Rhys Tait.

An all-Glasgow academy partnership was to be found in the centre, as Robbie McCallum paired up with Scotland U20 star Duncan Munn.

Ayrshire Bulls 17-14 Heriots

A Pete Horne-led Ayrshire Bulls squad got their campaign back on track after defeat in Stirling last weekend, edging a hard-fought affair at Millbrae.

Seven Glasgow players were named in the Bulls lineup, including the front-row duo of Grant Stewart and Tom Lambert.

Alex Samuel and Rory Jackson were also named amongst the starting pack, with Christian Townsend handed the number 10 jersey by Head Coach Horne.

Finlay Callaghan was promoted to the starting XV after coming off the bench at Bridgehaugh, where he partnered Tom Jordan in the centres.

A first-half try from Lambert helped put the home side in command, Townsend adding a conversion from the tee in a powerful opening 40 minutes from the Bulls.

Yet it would be Samuel who would prove the pick of the Glasgow talents on show, picking up his second Player of the Match award in just three matches.

The FOSROC Super6 Sprint Series continues this weekend, with Stirling County welcoming Boroughmuir Bears to Bridgehaugh under the Friday night lights in front of the Freesports cameras.

Ayrshire Bulls then make the trip to Melrose in a rematch of last season’s final, as they take on the Southern Knights at the Greenyards on Saturday afternoon.
