Cummings relishing Exeter encounter

21 Nov 2019

After a physical opening round, Warriors lock Scott Cummings is excited to play the underdog this weekend in Glasgow’s second Heineken Champions Cup pool game against Exeter Chiefs at Sandy Park.

Contributing a full eighty minutes at the weekend, Cummings was pleased with the team’s effort in a physically tiring encounter.

“It was a very physical game but we were happy to get the result,” said the lock.

There were a lot of sore bodies as a few of the pack played the full game.

“We had a consistency going, and we backed ourselves with well worked set pieces and strong physicality.”

The lineout was a particular highlight for Cummings, claiming four himself as well as consistently hindering Sale’s momentum.

That was definitely a plus for us,” said the 22-year-old.

“We knew going into the game that was an area we were going to try and target.

“We have good lineout jumpers and hats off to Tim (Swinson) and Rob (Harley) who run a lot of our defence, both did a great job.”

Ahead of the Warriors matchup at Sandy Park, the Scotland second-row believes that although being seen as the underdogs they are very much up for the challenge.

“It will be a big game,” said Cummings.

“Exeter are a team that are consistently good. They have a lot of great English internationalists playing for them.

“We are probably going down as underdogs but that’s a card we like playing.”

With the familiar face of Stuart Hogg amongst the opposition, Cummings expects both sides to relish the occasion.

“It will be good to play him,”smiled the second-rower.

“I’m sure everyone will be trying to rile him up as much as possible – he’ll expect that and will probably try and do the same to us!

We’re excited to play him as much as he is against us, so we’re all looking forward to it.”
