“It’s an amazing feeling” | Miotti

Even after playing a starring role in his side’s dismantling of Munster, Domingo Miotti was still surprised to find out about the scale of Glasgow’s achievement in Limerick.

Not only did the 38-26 win ensure that the Scottish-Italian Shield would be Scotstoun-bound come the end of the current campaign, as well as enhancing the Warriors’ chances of hosting a home quarter-final in the BKT United Rugby Championship, it also brought to an end one of the club’s longest droughts.

Not since 2014 had a Glasgow Warriors team tasted victory at Thomond Park, a fact that surprised even Miotti himself.

“Nine years?,” the fly-half said with surprise following yesterday’s win.

“I didn’t know that, that’s incredible.

“It’s an amazing feeling and I’m so proud to be a part of this team. That first half was so good for us – our attack, our defence, everything came together and clicked for us.

“We started the second half with a little bit of indiscipline and that’s something we will work on ahead of next week, but to get the win in that style is such a big moment for this group of players.”

The opening stanza is likely to go down in history as one of the defining spells of Glasgow Warriors rugby, with Franco Smith’s men ruthless in their pursuit of their goal.

Miotti was one of four players to touch down to secure the attacking bonus-point by the interval, as well as enjoying a flawless night from the kicking tee.

“We played the first half exactly like we train,” he said.

“All of our connections, everything that we practice, we showed exactly how much we work on those details in training. Both in attack and defence, I thought we were so good.

“I’m so proud of all of the boys and I’m proud of that result tonight.”

Having vanquished their fellow playoff chasers in the first match of the final block of regular season fixtures, attentions will now turn to an equally seismic fixture at Scotstoun next weekend.

A EOCR Challenge Cup last-16 clash with the Dragons awaits in what will be Glasgow’s inaugural home European knockout tie, a prospect that Miotti is relishing.

“I’m really looking forward to next weekend,” said the fly-half.

“We know how special playing at home in front of our supporters is, and we know how much they care and want to drive us on to be part of something special.

“Our focus now moves on to the Dragons and we know we have to prepare well for that match – we have to back up our performance against Munster and take that into another huge match at Scotstoun.”
