Kennedy pens new contract

Glasgow Warriors can confirm that Sean Kennedy has agreed to a new deal that will see him remain at the club for the foreseeable future, having impressed on a short-term deal so far in 2020/21.

The
scrum-half becomes the third player to commit his future to the club in recent
weeks, following in the footsteps of Scott Cummings and Tom Gordon.

Having
originally made his club debut against Zebre during a loan spell at Scotstoun
back in 2012, Kennedy made his first Glasgow Warriors appearance in seven years
earlier this season when he came off the bench against the Ospreys in October.

The
29-year-old has made five appearances to date this season, scoring his first
try in a Glasgow jersey in December’s clash with the Dragons at Scotstoun.

A
distinguished 7s player to boot, the former Alloa RFC man helped Scotland to
the Challenge Trophy at the 2019 Hong Kong Sevens.

When asked
about the news, Kennedy said: “I’m thrilled to be given a contract with the
club and it’s great to be able to stay at Glasgow for the foreseeable future

“We’ve got a
really talented squad of players which makes the decision to stay even easier
and I’m grateful to Danny for giving me the opportunity.

“Results
haven’t gone our way but we know we’re still a strong squad of players that I’m
excited to be a part of.”

On the
announcement of Kennedy’s contract extension, Head Coach Danny Wilson said: “Sean
has been a real asset to us this season.

“He’s impressed
when on the field – controlling the game well and driving the players around
the park.

“Sean’s
experience has really shone through during this period and it’s great to be
able to make him a part of our plans for the future.”
