Hogg determined to end Scotstoun career on a high
Ahead of his final game at Scotstoun before departing at the end of the season, Glasgow Warriors full-back Stuart Hogg says he wants to leave the club on a high.
The Scotland international – who will make the switch to Exeter Chiefs this summer – is in Dave Rennie’s starting line-up for tomorrow’s semi-final in front of a capacity crowd of 10,000 in the west end of Glasgow.
The Warriors will head into their last-four tie on the back of an eight-game unbeaten run in the competition, and Hogg believes the squad are raring to go ahead of tomorrow’s encounter.
“I think the squad is in a great place,” said the full-back.
“We’ve been in great form and shown a real edge in our last few games. We’ve beaten some really good teams and played some good rugby.
“The Saracens defeat probably came at the right time in the season for us – it gave us that bit of a rocket we needed to knuckle down and work harder going into the business end of the season.”
Ulster will be making their first semi-final appearance in the competition since 2016, with he two sides having previously met in the famous semi-final at Scotstoun during Glasgow’s title-winning season in 2014/15.
Despite recording a bonus-point 30-7 victory over the Belfast-based outfit at the start of April, Hogg is under no illusions as to the test his side will face.
“They’re a quality team,” he said.
“They have some cracking individual players and are going to be sending off a couple of club legends at the end of the season.
“Rory Best and Darren Cave have been great servants to Ulster rugby, so they’re going to be coming here fired up.
“We’re aware of their threats and we’re going to have to be on the money in both attack and defence.”
With the prize of a place in the Guinness PRO14 Final in Glasgow a tantalising prospect for all associated with the club, however, the Warriors star is fully focused on ensuring he plays his part in booking his side’s place at Celtic Park on 25 May.
“This club means a huge deal to me,” he said.
“Hopefully I’ll be able to thank the fans with my performances tomorrow night and hopefully next weekend.
“Winning silverware has been our focus for the entire season – our first task is Friday night and we’re fully focused on that.”
