Glasgow Warriors Awards Week to return for 2020/21

Glasgow Warriors Awards Week to return for 2020/21

Following its success in 2020, and due to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions, Glasgow Warriors will once again host its annual awards online with a week-long celebration from Monday 7 to Friday 11 June 2021.

Having renewed their sponsorship with the club for a further three years, The Malcolm Group, one of the leading providers of Logistics, Construction and Maintenance services in the UK,will sponsor the festivities for the seventh year running.

Each day, two award winners will be revealed on the club’s official social media channels beginning with the Land Rover Young Player of the Season and culminating in the McCrea Financial Services Player of the Season for 2020/21 – the latter being decided by a fan vote.

The club and fans will also have the opportunity to bid farewell to those who have left and will be leaving Scotstoun at the end of the season – including Glenn Bryce, Brandon Thomson, and Managing Director Nathan Bombrys – with special videos honouring the club’s leavers.

In a change from last year’s awards programme, the club’s Official Community Partner and front of shirt sponsor, SP Energy Networks, will put their name to the new SP Energy Networks Community Hero of the Year Award as they seek to unearth individuals who have gone above and beyond for their rugby club in a year that has brought challenges like no other to the grassroots game. This award replaces the SP Energy Networks Community Club of the Season for 2020/21.

George Horne was named McCrea Financial Services Player of the Season in 2019/20, with the scrum-half also claiming the prize for Try of the Season presented by University of Strathclyde. Recently selected British & Irish Lion Zander Fagerson was the winner of the Denholm Energy Players’ Player of the Season last year, as Thomas Gordon took home the Mackenzie Construction Most Improved Player award.

Managing Director, Al Kellock, said: “We’re delighted to be celebrating the achievements of our players and to have an opportunity to take stock of the high moments from a particularly challenging season with our annual awards.

“This time last year we had hoped we would be together again for our awards in 2021, but with the pandemic still limiting our ability to spend time together and celebrate the best moments of the past year, I’m pleased we can still entertain the Warrior Nation with our week-long digital awards. We remain hopeful our traditional Awards Dinner will return in 2022.

“My thanks go to our outstanding family of sponsors and partners for their continued support of the Awards Week, and in particular to The Malcolm Group for their commitment to be the main sponsor of the event.”
