Glasgow to face Newcastle in The Famous Grouse Pre-Season Challenge
Glasgow Warriors will begin their 2021/22 season with a home pre-season fixture, sponsored by The Famous Grouse, on Friday 3 September.
The Famous Grouse Pre-Season Challenge will kick-off at 7pm and will see the Gallagher Premiership side Newcastle Falcons travel north to Scotstoun Stadium.
This is the first time these two sides have gone head-to-head since 2011, when they met in a pre-season friendly at Firhill. That day Glasgow won the spoils, 17-7.
This match will also be the first opportunity for the Warrior Nation to see some of Glasgow’s latest signings in action – with the likes of Australia’s Jack Dempsey; Australian born, Scottish qualified centre, Sione Tuipulotu; and Scotland internationals Murray McCallum and Duncan Weir in contention for selection.
This fixture is the first of two pre-season games for Glasgow Warriors. Worcester Warriors will host the second match at Sixways Stadium a week later, on Friday 10 September, also at 7pm.
Glasgow Warriors Head Coach, Danny Wilson, said: “I’m pleased we’ve secured pre-season games against two quality English Premiership sides. These games will provide us with a standard of competition that will help us to be game-ready for the URC getting underway later in September.
“Pre-season has started well, and we look forward to getting into our second block of training next week which will take us up to these fixtures.”
Glasgow Warriors Managing Director, Al Kellock, said: “We are looking forward to welcoming Newcastle Falcons back to the West of Scotland for the first time in ten years.
“We are continuing to work hard behind the scenes on our plans for returning to crowds at Scotstoun. It is our intention to bring fans back for this fixture, which will make it an extra special occasion worth celebrating. We look forward to confirming those details in due course. Our thanks to The Famous Grouse who have put their name to our home pre-season game for another year.”
