The Guinness PRO14 season gets underway, Scotland get back to winning ways in Japan and Canada get set for their next test - all this and more in our latest Weekend Update.

Warriors fall in Guinness PRO14 opener

Glasgow Warriors opened their 2019/20 campaign in Bloemfontein on Friday night, as Dave Rennie’s men faced the Toyota Cheetahs in the opening match of the Guinness PRO14. It was the South African outfit that emerged victorious, however, running out with a 48-14 victory. Despite the defeat, there were positives for the Scotstoun side, including a brace of debutants amongst the replacements.

Scotland win in Kobe

After defeat in their opening Rugby World Cup match, Scotland knew that nothing less than a win would do against Samoa in Kobe earlier today. The result, however, was never in doubt, as Gregor Townsend’s side ran in four tries to claim a bonus-point 34-0 win over their Pool A counterparts.

Squad support from SP Energy Networks

Back in Glasgow, the Warriors players and coaching staff took in the action from SP Energy Networks on St Vincent Street as part of the first Glasgow Warriors Business Club Event of the season.

DTH in line for All Blacks test

DTH van der Merwe has once again been selected in Canada’s starting XV at a Rugby World Cup – the Warriors winger has been named on the wing for the side’s second Pool B match against New Zealand.
