Weekend Update
A landmark anniversary, an 1872 Cup Reloaded and Dave signs off - catch up with what's been going on around the club in the latest Weekend Update
Five years on
It’s unquestionably the most famous moment in the professional history of Glasgow Warriors.
Saturday 30 May 2015 is a date etched in the minds of the Warrior Nation as much as the image of Al Kellock lifting the Guinness PRO12 trophy at a rain-soaked Kingspan Stadium.
This Saturday marked the five-year anniversary of that title triumph, and the club was in the mood to reminisce…

#OnThisDay 5⃣ years ago – we made Scottish rugby history…
Our 2015 Guinness PRO12 title win also marked the final game in the illustrious career of @AlastairKellock, and you can now watch our documentary ‘The Captain’ on our website ?

I remember watching that when I was based out in Gibraltar with @RoyalNavy the rest of that weekend was a wee bit of a blur ? ? ? ? ? #WeAreWarriors #WarriorNation

Greatest day in the Club’s history and, as a former captain, so proud to be working on the TV for this game. #WarriorNation #WeAreWarriors https://t.co/Rho3XAMOkq

Just because I love that day so much – 15 things you (probably) never knew about @GlasgowWarriors‘ title-winning day in 2015. Including the fact that it was the only time that XV started a game together.#WeAreWarriors https://t.co/KDflFT0syi

It’s like yesterday one of the best days I have experienced in sport. Although i had a few that day it’s crystal clear in my memory. ‘We are warriors’ booming out as big Al raised the trophy. It is why I have this image as my profile picture. Thanks for the memories guys.

Dave signs off, Danny comes in
The club also marked the end of an era this weekend, as Dave Rennie officially stood down as the club’s Head Coach after three seasons in charge.
Danny Wilson comes in to replace the Australia-bound New Zealander, with the Welshman taking charge of the club for the first time today.

Good luck for the future and thanks for some great rugby memories
— Alan Barnett (@albigbarney) May 29, 2020
Thanks for all the hard work Dave, some of the rugby you empowered the players to deliver was out of this world and you’ve fulfilled the Kiwi mantra of ‘leaving the shirt in a better place than you found it!’ All the best with @wallabies & thank you

Good bye and thank you so much for your 3 years here – good luck in your new job

Welcome to the club Danny Wilson, you’re officially part of the #WarriorNation family, looking forward to seeing you in person soon and don’t forget to come into the clubhouse and say hi, maybe answer a few questions for the fans, no need to worry we are a friendly bunch ?

For Glasgow
After eight years with the club, Jonny Gray’s departure for Exeter Chiefs at the end of the season has been known by the Warrior Nation since January. The second-rower wasn’t going to go without saying a few words to the fans, though, expressing his pride at representing his hometown club.
? “You really feel like you’re representing the city when you play for this club.”
For @jonnygray14, it’s always been about representing his home town every time he steps on the pitch.
It’s always been For Glasgow.#OnceAWarriorAlwaysAWarrior

The Invincibles
As well as the anniversary of the 2015 title win, the club also marked 30 years since Glasgow’s unbeaten 1989/90 campaign.
A season that included Inter-District Championship glory and a famous win over Fiji, it was left to those involved in the season to tell the story in their own words…
It was an underdog story for the ages.
3⃣0⃣ years ago, an unfancied Glasgow District went unbeaten for the entire 1989/90 season.
From Inter-District glory to Fijian flair, this is the story of Glasgow’s ‘Invincibles’…

No fewer than 6 @GHKRFC players in this all-conquering Glasgow squad: Captain @Fergusdw @shademunro @GeoBreckenridge Ewan McCorkindale, Alan Watt and Derek Busby. 1872 Cup
Whilst meeting on the pitch was impossible due to the current situation, Glasgow Warriors and Edinburgh made sure that the 1872 Cup remained alive and well on social media.
With try chains, legends quizzes and more, a week-long celebration of Scottish rugby rivalry enthralled those on both sides of the M8.
Hey @EdinburghRugby – since we’re not playing each other this weekend, fancy looking back on some classic tries?
We’ll kick off with a @DTHVDM special, ably assisted by Mr Rob Harley ?

We’ll let you have the final word @EdinburghRugby ?
