Southern Kings 38-28 Glasgow Warriors
Trailing 31-0 with 60 minutes, Glasgow managed to claw back four tries and a bonus point on a disappointing afternoon on the Eastern Cape.
The hosts flew out of the block scoring after seven minutes and demonstrating the pace the possessed out wide, catching the sluggish Warriors off guard.
The Kings’ second try came after 10 minutes and from closer range, hammering over from 5m out and they had a third 10 minutes later. Diving over under the sticks.
Were it not for a knock-on in the build-up the South Africans would have secured a bonus point before the half hour mark, Nick Grigg also denied a try for the same offence.
A penalty on the stroke of half time made it 24-0 at the break and ten minutes into the second half they did secure a bonus, breaking from their own 22, chipping ahead and winning the race to dive between the posts.
With an hour played and 31-0 down Glasgow finally sparked into life. Nick Grigg running a hard line to force his way over, this time the Try was good.
Four minutes later replacement Adam Hastings flung a pass wide to DTH van der Merwe who dived over in the corner giving the visitors a glimmer of hope.
However, the Kings weren’t finished and after several phases inside the Glasgow 22 they forced their way over once again.
Fraser Brown profited from an advancing rolling maul to score Glasgow’s third try and with the clock red van der Merwe scored a second to secure a consolation four try bonus point.
