JP Du Preez expectant of repeat effort in round two of 1872 Cup
Glasgow Warriors won 16-10 against Edinburgh in Round 10 of the BKT United Rugby Championship, but now the celebrations have passed, it’s time to bring the effort and momentum into round two of this historic 1872 Cup anniversary derby next Friday (30 December, kick-off 7.35pm).
JP Du Preez caught up with glasgowwarriors.org following the fantastic win at Scotstoun to give us his reaction to the game.
“It was a great experience to be part of the first stage of the 1872 Cup. We accomplished what we were speaking about this week.
“But for us at this stage, it’s celebrate now and then focus on the next job.”
Glasgow Warriors were leading from the outset, by getting on the board first. Their dominance and drive showed throughout their set pieces.
“Our set piece dominance really stood out for me. When I just came on and we had a scrum right underneath the poles and we got a penalty, that was a highlight.”
Next week sees round two of the derby take place at BTM Murrayfield, but the Warriors won’t let the home advantage for Edinburgh get the better of them.
“Going into next week we need to take our performance up another level. For me I always say, one percent each. If we all just go one percent each, then we can really go out and show what we can do.”
The Warrior Nation were out in force tonight, with a capacity crowd that were full of loud support throughout the game.
“The atmosphere tonight was amazing! You could hear the support all around and it is really encouraging on the pitch.”
Glasgow Warriors take on Edinburgh Rugby next Friday 30 December, at BT Murrayfield in the second round of the 1872 Cup.
Glasgow’s next home game is against DHL Stormers on 8 January 2023. Tickets are on sale now. https://bit.ly/3VnisCu
