Brown voted Warrior of the Month for August
Fraser Brown has claimed the McCrea Financial Services Warrior of the Month award for August, after emerging victorious in the final online poll of 2019/20.
The hooker
earned 47.6% of the public vote, comfortably ahead of runner-up and fellow
front-rower Zander Fagerson.
It was a
stellar return to rugby for the 31-year-old, who was named as one of the club’s
co-captains by Head Coach Danny Wilson for the conclusion of the 2019/20 campaign
and for 2020/21.
Having
earned his 50th cap for Scotland earlier this year, Brown became the
latest addition to the Glasgow Warriors Centurions Club in the final match of
the season as he ran out for his 100th appearance for the Scotstoun
side.
An early try
was just one facet of a player-of-the-match performance from the skipper, who
became the first Warrior in a decade to achieve all three honours in a single
match.
It is the
first time in Brown’s seven-year stint at the club that he has claimed the
monthly award, becoming the third front-rower in succession to emerge
victorious after Fagerson and Aki Seiuli.
“The return
to rugby was the biggest thing for me and for all of us,” Brown told glasgowwarriors.org.
“To be able
to hit the ground running was nice for me, though, and to make my 100th
appearance was a highlight.
“The support
of the fans has been massive, too. Whilst we haven’t been able to have them
cheering us on in person, the support we get through social media is amazing.
Hopefully we’re able to give them something to be proud about, and they’re a
big part of why we enjoy playing for this club.
“Our goal
now is to come together as quickly as we can as a squad ahead of the new
season, make the tweaks we started to make in the Edinburgh games. We spent a
lot of time apart, but we know if we all work together and work for each other
we’re a very hard team to beat.”
