80

FT: Zebre Parma 9-40 Glasgow Warriors

The penalty doesn’t lead to anything and the final whistle goes!

80

The clock has ticked over 80 minutes now. The final play will be a Zebre penalty.

80

Thompson adds the extras!

79

And another try!

Tom Jordan breaks. He offloads to Euan Ferrie who makes 15 metres. He has George Horne on his shoulder. The offload finds the scrum half and he turns on the afterburners and runs in try number six, under the posts! 9-38

76

Glasgow score number five

Tom Jordan’s first touches are effective. He gathers an inside pass from Josh McKay, with clear space in front of him. He runs in 25 metres and has Jamie Dobie – now on the wing – on his shoulder, who takes the pass and runs in the fifth try of the game. Thompson converts. 9-33

75

Replacement

Stafford McDowall > Tom Jordan

73

BKT URC Player of the Match: Kyle Steyn

He’s been impressive, and thoroughly deserving of the early BKT URC Player of the Match announcement. Two tries to the good, and overall solid performance from the captain, sees him collect these particular spoils.

72

Glasgow attack

Another good attacking phase from the visitors. Their passing game is coming into its own now. But, this particular move is ended with a knock on from Thomas Gordon.

70

Bonus point try

A perfectly played passing game, with lovely dummy runners and accurate passes. This move opens Kyle Steyn up on the wing, with plenty of space to run in and dive over in the corner. That’s the bonus point try!

67

Ross Thompson punts the ball right down the middle of the pitch and McDowall almost gets onto the end of it as it bounces on Zebre’s five metre line. The covering defender gathers and clear. Glasgow line out.

66

Replacements

Gregor Hiddleston > Grant Stewart

Max Williamson > Gregor Brown

61

Glasgow make their way right back up to Zebre’s five metre line and win a line out. However, the maul from that set piece is moving at such a rate of knots, the bodies coming off it an deemed obstructive and the ball is turned over.

Zebre clear!

58

Glasgow penalty

Some confusion on the pitch here. Zebre cross Glasgow’s line and initially the referee awards a try. However, that’s turned over and Glasgow are handed a penalty and can clear their lines.

57

Replacements

Allan Dell > Nathan McBeth

Lucio Sordoni > Zander Fagerson

Kyle Rowe > George Horne

Henco Venter > Euan Ferrie

57

Zebre penalty

Winger Jacopo Trulla wins the foot race for the ball sitting in Glasgow’s 22. Kyle Steyn is over it though, so Trulla wins his team a penalty. Line out Zebre.

51

Glasgow try

Glasgow come to life with this move. Jamie Dobie chips a ball over the ruck, which bounces awkwardly, but still into Henco Venter’s hands. Venter had captain Steyn on his shoulder, who gathers the pass, and as he does so well, steps inside, opens up the defence and runs in the score from 40 metres.

Thompson converts. 9-21

51

Glasgow penalty

Zebre are playing a really tight defensive set up that Glasgow are struggling to break, but discipline issues for the home team are slipping in and Glasgow claim another penalty, and kick to the corner.

49

Glasgow line out

From the scrum Dominguez kicks for touch, but the line out won by Glasgow is still in Zebre’s 22. There’s an opportunity to create something here.

48

Zebre scrum

Zebre snubbed the maul on that occassion, forcing Glasgow to try other attacking options. They work through the phases and the forward -notably Dell and Venter- run some lovely lines that bring them up to the Zebre tryline, however, after a time, the ball is knocked out of Jamie Dobie’s hands and Zebre turnover.

46

Glasgow penalty

From the 50/22 line out Zebre are penalised for offside, and Glasgow take the line out.

45

Ross Thompson 50/22

Glasgow try to run it through a handful of phases from inside their half, but Zebre defend effectively. This prompts the stand off to try a 50/22, which he executes perfectly, good weight and ideal bounce. Glasgow line out.

14:05

Dominguez adds three

43

Zebre penalty

Ally Miller penalised for pushing his opposite man as he retreats from a Zebre clearance kick. It gives Zebre a penalty on the Glasgow ten metre line.

41

Second half begins

Ross Thompson restarts proceedings, Zebre gather and clear. Glasgow line out just inside the home team’s half.

40

HT: Zebre Parma 6-14 Glasgow Warriors

Ross Thompson strikes the conversion to add two points.

40

Glasgow try

And on the stroke of half time, a familiar sight. Five metre line out, maul set, Hiddleston touch down. 6-12

39

From the scrum, Glasgow take a quick tap free kick. They go wide to Kyle Steyn, who breaks the line and makes more than fifty metres. He brings Glasgow into the opposition 22. Dobie then sends the ball wide to the opposite wing where back row Ally Miller has a chance to break. He brings them closer but is stopped for now.

The referee hands Glasgow a penalty, and they go for the corner.

39

Glasgow scrum

This’ll likely be the last play of the game. Glasgow win a scrum on their own ten metre. And, a familiar site from this game, we go through a handful of reset scrums before play continues.

37

Max Williamson rips the ball, from the tackle on his opposite man. He then finds Venter that delivers a wide pass to Rowe. Rowe kicks on, but it’s gathered in close quarters by Zebre and they hit the contact and reset.

36

Zebre penalty

Zebre continue to play with a lot of energy. This time Allan Dell is penalised at the ruck, handing the home team another attacking opportunity.

Some light relief for Glasgow as Zebre’s final pass wide goes into touch.

34

Glasgow take the lead

It was a wide kick, but stand off Ross Thompson struck it well to add the extras. 6-7

33

Glasgow try

It was the exact same move as the previous play. The line out was good, the maul was effective, and this time the try line opens up for Hiddleston to score. 6-5

32

Glasgow take the ball right up to the line via the maul. Hiddleston dives for the try, but is held up. The forwards reset, and Sordoni looks for the try. He’s then also held up. Zebre clear. Glasgow line out.

31

Another Glasgow penalty

Through these phases Glasgow were opting to hit hard down the middle, which was giving them some gains, and at the ruck they’ve won another penalty and gone to the opposite corner.

29

Glasgow penalty

The visitor’s finally win something to their advantage. They are handed a penalty just inside their opponents half. They go for the corner, where hooker Gregor Hiddleston delivers the line out, then sets up the maul.

29

Josh McKay and Kyle Rowe execute a nice switch and pass to find a gap, but the cover defence holds firm. Glasgow still have it and move wide again.

27

Glasgow opportunity

From the restart Allan Dell collects a loose ball and breaks into Zebre’s 22. The Warriors move the ball wide, and back to the opposite wing, looking for the gap and still advancing.

Steyn gathers on the wing, but his pass back inside goes forward. Zebre gather and look to counter.

26

Zebre advance

Dominguez slots this one, 6-0

22

Zebre penalty

Glasgow are having a hard time with the scrum. A lot of resets, and once again they are penalised at tight head. Dominguez goes for a second kick at goal.

24

Replacement

Sintu Manjezi takes a knock and is replaced by Scott Cummings.

21

Zebre free kick

Glasgow struggling to win any favour with the referee. He stops play to speak to Glasgow about more consistency in the scrum. He then gives the free kick to Zebre, and they opt to go again. He is very clear he wants more stability from both sides.

20

Zebre scrum

It’s been quite a loose period of attack in the last few minutes. Zebre are playing quite comfortably from there though, with fast offloading and regathering balls that have gone to the floor.

Manjezi times his tackle just wrong amongst this with the ball bouncing off him as he goes in for the hit, handing Zebre the scrum.

19

Glasgow turnover

Glasgow turnover the line out and win their own throw, from the same position.

Line out gathered, two phases played up front, and then Dobie clears and finds Glasgow’s ten metre line.

18

Zebre penalty

Penalised again. Penalties are hindering Glasgow’s ability to create any threat. Zebre will go to the corner with this penalty, and it’s a long old kick that reaches the Glasgow five.

17

McKay breaks

Zebre moving left to right, and back again, managed to get themselves up to the Glasgow five metre line. After ten or so phases a ripped ball finally won the ball back. One wide pass to Josh McKay, set the returning full back free. He found Kyle Rowe in support who punted the ball up the pitch and earns the visitor’s territory. The first real sign of attack from Glasgow.

14

Zebre penalty

Zebre are looking competent with the ball in hand, they are moving the ball around and looking to test Glasgow around the edges. A big hit from Sordoni and Venter looked like a good defensive effort and turnover opportunity, but another penalty to Zebre for side entry.

The ball goes to the 22, for a home-team line out.

13:15

Zebre penalty

Winger Jacopo Trulla takes this kick, a long range effort. It drifted though and the score stays 3-0.

12

Zebre penalty

Zebre create a kick and chase, that puts a lot of pressure on Glasgow Warriors. But McDowall gathers and clears. The referee does call the teams back and hands Zebre a penalty, back where the scrum was.

10

Zebre scrum

6

Zebre penalty

Zebre string a set of phases together, which has taken them up to the Glasgow five metre line, and they’ve won another penalty that they will kick.

3

Teams get familiar

The early exchanges are a back and forth tussle in the middle of the park. Both teams getting a feel for each other and their surroundings.

That’s momentum is broken with a wide break from Ally Miller and offload to Jamie Dobie. But, a penalty on the ground allows Zebre to clear.
