Hospital patient Torrance to join Fusaro for match ball presentation

Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity patient Brodie Torrance will join Glasgow Warriors legend Chris Fusaro in presenting the match ball for tomorrow night’s clash with Leinster, as the club Plasters It Purple in support of its Official Charity Partner.

Torrance, five, has been a patient at Glasgow Children’s Hospital since he was just one year old, receiving treatment for severe asthma in their expert care.

Often staying in hospital for up to a week at a time, Torrance will be attending tomorrow’s match with his mum and older brother, and will be cheering on the Warriors as they look to make it three successive home victories in the United Rugby Championship.

Fusaro will make a return to Scotstoun for the first time since hanging up his boots this summer, after calling time on one of the most celebrated careers in the club’s professional history.

The former openside flanker made 183 appearances in Glasgow colours, a tally bettered only by Ryan Wilson and Rob Harley in the club’s 25-year existence.

Having come through the ranks at Howe of Fife with lifelong friend and future Glasgow team-mate Pete Horne, Fusaro made his debut for the Warriors in February 2010, going on to play a key role in the club’s rise to perennial challengers at the top of the league.

A standout 2011/12 campaign saw him voted as both Player of the Season and Players’ Player of the Season, as well as receiving the Coaches’ Award in 2018 in recognition of his efforts on and off the field.

He earned four caps for Scotland, making his debut in the dark blue in the 2014 Calcutta Cup clash with England at BT Murrayfield.

Fusaro was also a keen supporter of the club’s charity work during his career with the Warriors, and in particular of the links between the club and Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity.

The 32-year-old can’t wait to return to Scotstoun, as he prepares to both say a proper farewell to the Warrior Nation and help them raise as much money as possible for Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity.

“I’m absolutely delighted to be invited back to Scotsoun to see the fans,” Fusaro told glasgowwarriors.org.

“Having got used to no crowds last season, it’ll be like a new experience again walking out in front of a full crowd.

“Glasgow have started the season well, but Leinster will be the toughest challenge yet. I’m looking forward to it and I can’t wait to see everyone again. Seeing the place full will be great.

“It’s a massive honour to be asked back. You almost got used to being in front of nobody, so it’ll be a new experience again.”
