Bell to leave Glasgow Warriors at end of season

Glasgow Warriors assistant coach Jonny Bell is to depart the club at the end of the 2020/21 season having accepted a coaching role with Worcester Warriors.

Having moved to Glasgow during the pandemic, this move means that Bell can return to Cheltenham, a place his family have regarded as home in recent years.

Bell will continue to oversee the club’s attack for the remaining fixtures in the Guinness PRO14 Rainbow Cup.

“It is with sadness that I have had to make this decision,” Bell told glasgowwarriors.org.

“After what has been an incredibly challenging year, it has underlined the fact that my family’s happiness is more important than anything.

“My family have struggled to settle in a new city under the very difficult circumstances that COVID has created, and I am fortunate to have been given the opportunity to take them back to a place they have regarded as home for the past six years.

“This move also affords me the opportunity to work once again with Alan Solomons and be part of his exciting plans for Worcester Warriors.

“I am hugely grateful to Danny [Wilson], Al [Kellock] and all the players and staff at Glasgow Warriors and Scottish Rugby for their friendship and support during the year and I thank them for supporting this difficult decision.”

“I will continue to give my total commitment to the club for the remainder of the season and they have my very best wishes for the future.”

Glasgow Warriors Head Coach Danny Wilson said: “Thank you to Jonny for his excellent and hard work this season, particularly having moved his family to a new city in very difficult circumstances.

“As a club we recognise family comes first, and though it is a shame to lose Jonny we are completely supportive of this move.”
