Dates and times confirmed for 2022/23 United Rugby Championship
It has been confirmed today that Glasgow Warriors will play the majority of their home 2022/23 United Rugby Championship fixtures on Friday and Saturday evenings at 7.35pm.
The club has secured six Friday night games, two Saturday evening ties and a Sunday afternoon billing at Scotstoun Stadium this season.
Before then, round one will see Warriors travel to Benetton on Friday 16 September, kick-off 5.30pm, in what will be the very first match of the URC.
The Warrior Nation will then have their first home-league fixture in more than six months when the team faces Cardiff Rugby on Friday 23 September at 7.35pm.
The next home tie will be against the Vodacom Bulls, who will make their first trip to Scotstoun Stadium since joining the league in 2021, on Saturday 8 October at 7.35pm.
In December, fans can look forward to the highly anticipated 150th anniversary derbies of the 1872 Cup as Glasgow Warriors and Edinburgh go head-to-head. The first of those fixtures will be at Scotstoun Stadium on Friday 23 December, with the deciding leg the following Friday (30 December) at BT Murrayfield – both kick off at 7.35pm.
The one exception to the Friday or Saturday night matches is in round 12 when the defending champions DHL Stormers make their Glasgow debut on Sunday 8 January at 3pm.
Glasgow Warriors’ Head Coach, Franco Smith, said: “I can’t think of a better place to start our league campaign than at Stadio Monigo against Benetton. I know every centimetre of that field and I know the environment we’ll be walking into, it’s a big challenge, but it will also be a new start for the Warriors under new guidance.
“It will then be fantastic to have the crowd back at Scotstoun. They are the 16th player in the group and they are vital for making Scotstoun our fortress.
“An objective this season is to win every home game, and with Cardiff first it will be important for the players to showcase the product we’ll play going forward.”
Glasgow Warriors Managing Director, Al Kellock, said: “We’re really looking forward to the 2022/23 season getting underway now and we’re delighted to be able to confirm a strong mix of Friday and Saturday night games at Scotstoun for our supporters.
“We have worked hard with the league and Premier Sports to have a set of fixtures that allows our fans to stay involved with their local clubs while supporting Glasgow Warriors this year and we thank them for their support.”
Before the URC gets underway Glasgow Warriors will round-off an intensive pre-season against Gallagher Premiership side Worcester Warriors in Inverness (on Friday 2 September, kick-off 7.30pm), before Ulster travel to Scotstoun Stadium for The Famous Grouse Pre-Season Challenge (on Friday 9 September, kick-off 7.30pm).
