Rennie: Win keeps us in the race for quarter-finals
Played out in difficult conditions, the home side earned a 21-10 victory over their visitors thanks to two tries from Niko Matawalu, with Adam Hastings adding 11 points from the tee.
“We knew it was going to be tricky today,” said Rennie.
“We got off to a good start, but it was clearly tough for both sides.
“If you’d seen the changing room at half-time, you’d have seen all sorts of things going on as the boys tried to keep warm. It was a challenge, but it’s a winter sport so you just get on with it.
“Lyon gave us a really good test – we had to really make sure we put them away in that second-half.”
Despite missing out on a try bonus point, Glasgow’s victory sees them remain right in the mix for a best runners-up spot, finding themselves four points behind group leaders Saracens after round four.
“There were a lot of handling errors and we were nowhere near as clinical as we’d like to have been.
“We got the win though, and we’re still in the race.
“We’ll know a bit more after all the results from this round, but our focus is winning against Cardiff. If we do that we’ll be on 18 points, or 19 if we get the bonus point, which would give us a real chance.”
Before the Heineken Champions Cup returns, though, there is the small matter of national bragging rights to take care of, with Glasgow travelling to BT Murrayfield a week today to take on Edinburgh in the first match of the 1872 Cup. It’s a fixture that Rennie and his squad are already looking forward to.
“The boys really enjoy it,” said Rennie.
“Obviously it’s back at BT Murrayfield, where a fair few of our boys have played recently, and we know quite a bit about the other team!
“It’s a really great way to bring in Christmas.”
