Rennie pleased with clinical Warriors

Glasgow Warriors head coach Dave Rennie was pleased with the clinical nature of his side’s performance against Connacht, after a display that saw his team run in six tries to remain within touching distance of the top of Conference A.

A brace from Robbie Nairn and a Man of the Match performance from Brandon Thomson helped the Warriors to a 43-17 victory over their visitors, with George Horne getting Rennie’s men on the board within the first minute of the match.

“I’m always nervous when we start that quickly – you worry that the boys might think it’s going to be easier than it’s going to be,” said Rennie.

“I thought it was a pretty good performance overall. We were very clinical and executed our exit strategies well. We felt that, after 20 minutes, we hadn’t really built any pressure – we gave away a few penalties and hadn’t kicked on as we should have.

“From then on, though, we were excellent. We got the ball into the right areas of the field and we were patient with it.

“There were some young men out there tonight who fronted up well for us. I’m pleased with how we went.”

The result, combined with Munster’s narrow victory over the Ospreys in Wales this evening, has seen the top two in the conference open up a gap between themselves and the rest. With the Warriors unbeaten in their last three fixtures, Rennie has been impressed with his side’s record during the international window.

“Cardiff can get a bit closer to us if they win tomorrow, but tonight was an important game for us,” said the Warriors Head Coach.

“The last few weeks have been a chance for us to get some points against our conference rivals and we’ve racked up 14 points when our international boys have been away.

“It’s been an important period for us.”
