Murchie happy to take all five points

Assistant Coach Pete Murchie was pleased to see Glasgow Warriors record a first bonus-point victory of the season in Parma this afternoon, in his first match since joining the club’s coaching team on a full-time basis.

The club centurion and former Ayrshire Bulls Head Coach was amongst those sat in the stands at the Stadio Sergio Lanfranchi to see the Warriors come from behind against Zebre, running in three tries in the final quarter to secure a vital win over their Conference A opponents.

“It’s always good to get five points on the road,” said Murchie.

“It was a tough game that had a lot of momentum swings, but we finished really strongly in that last 20 minutes. The guys did well to see it through.

“We created a lot in attack and looked dangerous throughout the game. We knew if we could hold onto possession and make it count in the right areas, then we would cause Zebre problems.”

Having gone into the half-interval trailing due to Mattia Bellini’s brace, second-half scores from Jamie Dobie, Thomas Gordon and Nick Grigg ultimately ensured that the result would go in Glasgow’s favour.

Murchie was keen to praise the team’s resilience throughout, having also had to deal with yellow card to Sam Johnson and Ollie Smith either side of half-time.

“You saw there how momentum changes games,” said Murchie.

“We had a tough ten-minute period just before and just after half-time, and Zebre definitely had their tails up. You clearly never want to play with 13 men, but we showed a lot of character.

“They showed a lot of guts to ride that period of the game out, and to come through it and win in the way we did was very satisfying.”

The Glasgow assistant also offered an update on Gregor Brown, who was led from the field just five minutes into his first start for the club after a heavy collision with Michaelangelo Biondelli.

“Gregor looks alright,” said Murchie.

“It was obviously a big collision, so we’ll be careful with him over the next little while.

“Hopefully he comes through it alright and we’ll see how he does in the next few days.”
