Record-breaking game, but plenty to learn from | Dell

Saturday evening saw Glasgow Warriors see off visiting Dragons RFC 73-33 in a record breaking game. 

Four new club records were set including most tries in a game, Allan Dell got a great try assist for Johnny Matthews’ second try of the game when he ran it into touch from just outside the 22.

Speaking of that try, Dell says he can’t take credit and that “Johnny did the hard bit”

Dell, speaking to glasgowwarriors.org says that last night was a very frustrating game despite the record-breaking score.

“It was very sloppy at times, and we gave them a lot of opportunities.  But at the same time, we did a lot of good things too.  A very frustrating game.

“We got some good tries but at the same time it was very frustrating, and we gave away some really poor things.”

The frustration of the game was evident with Dell after the match. But there was still plenty positives to talk about.

“The things that we have planned well, the maul, we were very dominant in that and you could see that and we scored a lot from that and that then frees up space out wide. And our backs scored some really good tries from that.  That front flowing attacking rugby is there.

“We just lacked a bit of continuity.  We just need to set up and not give them easy opportunities to get in.  We could have a perfect game, and we are close to that, we are getting there.  But it was a really good game.”

Last night’s win sees Glasgow Warriors through to next week’s Quarter Final against Emirates Lions which will be held at Scotstoun. Speaking of the upcoming game, Dell said, “Next week will be a hard game.  If we play like we played tonight, we probably wouldn’t have the same result.

“They have a very difficult side.  They are wanting to win.  Their players will be putting everything behind them and come hard to win.

“I think if we switch on from the start and stay switched on we will be fine.”

Finally, Dell is wanting the squad to continue to perform well and play entertaining rugby so they an reward the ever supportive fans.

“The Warrior Nation is always amazing and we just want to reward them by playing good rugby.”
