Neild looks ahead to Perpignan visit

Cameron Neild made his debut for the Warriors during Saturday’s winner against Bath, in the opening round of the 2022/23 Challenge Cup. Buoyed by the club’s second victory on the road, he caught up with glasgowwarriors.org to give us insight into how Saturday was for him and how the team are preparing ahead of Friday’s home game against Perpignan (kick-off 8pm).

“I’m delighted to have finally made my debut for Glasgow.  I had turned up and trained previously but then I got injured in a game and was out for 12 days, so it was nice to finally make that debut.  Especially against some old friends I had played with previously. It was good to get one up on them, on their patch, as well.”

Thinking ahead to Friday’s game at home and how to carry the momentum into training this week, Neild believes that the squad should be successful not just against Perpignan but against Edinburgh in the derby that is coming over the Christmas period.

“It is important for the team to build on where we left off against Bath, that is with our intent and where everything we did was purposeful.  If we bring the same determination and the right attitude, we will be successful against Perpignan on Friday night.

“So far, I’ve been here and seen two away wins. I’m delighted that we have won the last two, it seems like we are heading in the right direction.

“People are dying to improve so personally; I believe results will be better than they have the first few games. Its already started with the two away wins, and then we have Perpignan and the double derby.  Its exciting times.”

The temperatures have plummeted this week and many are asking how the weather will impact not just Friday nights game but training during the week.

“I’m quite used to it, I’m from Manchester originally, it’s cold in Manchester but its colder here in Glasgow.  That’s for sure.

“In terms of preparations, we are training at an indoor facility at Ravenscraig, which is cold even though it is indoors.  We will get in two great rugby sessions in this week as usual leading into the game on Friday.

“It may affect Perpignan’s preparations; I think they may be in for a shock when they turn up here on Friday. It’s not like the sunny south of France.”

Friday’s game at Scotstoun is set to be a chilly one with the grounds team working hard to make sure it’s playable on Friday night. If you are coming remember to wrap up warm and bring extra layers.
