SP Energy Networks Community Spotlight | Shaun Cauvin
Glasgow Warriors are delighted to announce that Shaun Cauvin of Waysiders Drumpellier Rugby Football Club has been selected as SP Energy Networks Community Spotlight for February.
Shaun is the Mini’s Coach for Waysiders Drumpellier RFC, working predominantly with the P4-P7 children. As the Mini’s Coach, Shaun has implemented several new incentives for the children, such as Player of the Week which has become a firm favourite. These incentives have encouraged the children to up their game at training and to put themselves in the running for the trophy.
Shaun is also the Youth Representative on the Committee. As a committee member, Shaun works tirelessly to help improve the club and to encourage local children to come join the team.
Shaun is a role model to Minis players
Nicola Mahmood who nominated Shaun, was delighted that his hard work has been recognised. She said: “Shaun is a shining example of what it means to be a coach in grass roots rugby.
“He inspires our players to bring their best to both training and their matches. He is their biggest advocate, and he has spent time getting to know them all individually so that he can help to build on their strengths and develop them where they need it.
“I am delighted to see him recognised by Glasgow Warriors and SP Energy Works. To have others see the same value in him that we do as parents and to show our appreciation for all that he does.”
Player development
Discussing his work with Waysiders Drumpellier Minis and beyond, Shaun emphasised how proud he is of seeing his players develop in the game, as a team, and as individuals: “Over the last 5 years coaching at WDRFC, I have been privileged to see many of the minis develop, not only as players but as characters.
“Sport has always been part of my life and getting the chance to help others enjoy rugby and grow is the reason that I coach every week. Plus, we have some amazing young players at Waysiders Drumpellier, who I expect to see playing for the Warriors, Scotland and the British and Irish Lions one day!”
Shaun will be presenting the Player of the Match medal for Glasgow Warriors Men against the Dragons on Saturday 17 February. “I feel extremely fortunate to have been selected and am grateful for the support and recognition from WDRFC,” he said.
Nominations for the next Community Spotlight are now open and the form can be found here.
