Tuipulotu voted as Rugby Writers Scotland Performance Men’s Player of the Year

Sione Tuipulotu has been voted as the Rugby Writers Scotland Performance Men’s Player of the Year, after a stellar campaign for both club and country in 2023/24.

The news was announced at the organisation’s awards dinner in Glasgow last night, with Tuipulotu’s Glasgow club-mates Ally Miller and Ollie Smith on hand to accept the award on the centre’s behalf.

A fixture in the midfields of both the Warriors and Scotland, 27-year-old Tuipulotu has become a firm favourite with supporters since arriving in Glasgow ahead of the 2021/22 season.

The centre made his 50th appearance in Glasgow colours during last weekend’s epic at Loftus Versfeld, scoring six tries to date in addition to producing a host of impressive performances in the midfield.

He has made 14 appearances to date for the Warriors this season, crossing for a memorable team score away to Exeter Chiefs and continuing to provide a blend of direct running and subtle distribution to help Franco Smith’s men top the BKT URC standings with two rounds remaining.

Tuipulotu also featured at a first-ever World Cup for Scotland at the start of the 2023/24 campaign, featuring in three matches at the tournament before starting each of his country’s first three fixtures in this year’s Guinness Six Nations.

Speaking from Johannesburg as his side prepares to face the Emirates Lions tomorrow afternoon, the centre said: “I’m hugely honoured and humbled by this award.

“I take my rugby very seriously and want to give my best every time I play for Glasgow and for Scotland, and to give back to those who have supported me.

“I just want to keep playing my best rugby here, and I’m looking forward to continuing my career in Scotland.”
