Squad Update | Pre-Season

The first block of pre-season is officially underway at Scotstoun, as Glasgow Warriors kick start preparations for the 2023/24 campaign.

A total of 46 players reported for day one of pre-season training this morning, including the club’s cohort of senior academy prospects.

Head Coach Franco Smith and assistant coaches Nigel Carolan, Pete Murchie and Al Dickinson, as well as Senior Academy Coach, Shade Munro, will oversee training, with Pete Horne part of the Scotland coaching group heading to the Rugby World Cup.

The players training at Scotstoun are:

Props: Tom Banatvala*, Allan Dell, Oli Kebble, Nathan McBeth, Callum Norrie*, Enrique Pieretto, Callum Smyth*, Murphy Walker.

Hookers: Fraser Brown, Angus Fraser, Gregor Hiddleston, Johnny Matthews.

Second-row: Ryan Burke*, Ruaraidh Hart*, Sintu Manjezi, Harris McLeod*, JP du Preez, Alex Samuel, Max Williamson.

Back-row: Gregor Brown, Euan Ferrie, Thomas Gordon, Jack Mann, Ally Miller, Jonny Morris*, Henco Venter.

Scrum-halves: Ben Afshar, Sean Kennedy.

Fly-halves: Richie Simpson, Ross Thompson, Matthew Urwin*, Duncan Weir.

A further 16 players remain on international duty with their respective countries – 14 with Scotland (Jamie Bhatti, Scott Cummings, Rory Darge, Jack Dempsey, Matt Fagerson, Zander Fagerson, Richie Gray, George Horne, Huw Jones, Ali Price, Ollie Smith, Kyle Steyn, Sione Tuipulotu and George Turner), Sione Vailanu with Tonga, and Lucio Sordoni with Argentina.

The club can also offer an update on players currently on the return to play pathway following injury.

Josh McKay is continuing his recovery from a foot injury sustained against Zebre Parma back in March, with a targeted return to full action at the end of pre-season.

Fraser Brown has had surgery on a knee injury sustained while playing for the World XV against the Barbarians, and is expected to be out of action until April.

Logan Trotter and Duncan Munn are both recovering from ankle injuries, the pair looking to return at the end of pre-season.

Richie Simpson is currently working through concussion protocols with the club’s medical team following a head injury sustained while playing for Scotland U20.

Facundo Cordero, Gregor Brown and Tom Banatvala have all completed their rehabilitation following their respective long-term injuries, with Banatvala having featured for the FOSROC Future XV in the FOSROC Super Series.
