Six Glasgow academy talents selected for Scotland U20 clash with USA
All six of the Glasgow Warriors academy prospects in the Scotland U20 squad for the 2023 World Rugby U20 Trophy have been selected in the matchday 23 for Thursday’s clash with the USA, as the men in blue look to continue their pursuit of promotion back to the top tier.
Kenny Murray’s squad will look to consolidate their strong position at the top of Pool A, having earned a 64-33 win over Zimbabwe on matchday one of the competition.
Logan Jarvie comes into the starting XV after missing out on the opening round victory, the Stirling Wolves winger having impressed during the FOSROC Super Series for both the Bridgehaugh squad and Glasgow Warriors A.
Club-mate Ben Salmon continues at outside centre, having crossed the whitewash for one of Scotland’s nine tries against Zimbabwe on Saturday morning.
Callum Norrie is another to retain his place, the tight-head continuing at the coalface for the third Scotland U20 fixture in succession.
Jonny Morris makes it a quartet of Glasgow prospects in the starting lineup by lining up at number eight, the GHA product having come off the bench on matchday one.
Two further Glasgow talents lie in wait on the bench, with Ruaraidh Hart retaining the number 19 jersey for Murray’s men.
Kerr Yule completes the Glasgow contingent, the centre rotating to the bench having formed an all-Glasgow partnership in the midfield with Salmon during the win over Zimbabwe.
Head Coach Kenny Murray said: “We were really pleased to bag our first win of the tournament and get off to a good start.
“The players showed some strong performances against Zimbabwe, especially in the first half. We obviously had a period where we took our foot off the gas in the second half, so there were a lot of learnings to take from that 15-minute window.
“The USA are a strong and physical team and with this quick turnaround between matches, we must make sure we capitalise on every opportunity.”
