Seymour signs until 2021
Tommy Seymour has put pen to paper on a one-year extension to his current Glasgow Warriors contract.
Seymour’s deal was due to expire
next summer, but the ex-Scotland international will now be staying in Glasgow until at least the summer of 2021.
The 2017 British and Irish
Lion has made 138 appearances in a Glasgow Warriors jersey in his career so far, with his try-scoring exploits placing him second on the club’s all-time list.
Having joined from Ulster ahead
of the 2011/12 campaign, Seymour made his debut for the Warriors against his former club in September 2011.
Since then, the 31-year-old
has become one of the most prodigious finishers in the northern hemisphere, frequently crossing the whitewash in both the Guinness PRO14 and Heineken Champions Cup.
His most recent scores for
the club came in the 2019 Guinness PRO14 Semi-Final, touching down for a brace in his side’s 50-20 victory over Ulster at Scotstoun.
Seymour has also made his presence
felt on the international stage since making his Scotland debut against South Africa in 2013, scoring 20 tries – including a hat-trick against Fiji at BT Murrayfield in November 2018 – and earning his 50th cap in the 2019 Guinness Six Nations meeting
with Wales.
He played in the Rugby World
Cup in Japan and recently announced his retirement after amassing 55 caps for his country.
“Being in a city that has become my home over the last nine years was a massive factor in deciding to stay,” said Seymour.
“My wife and I are incredibly happy here, our children are settled and the opportunity to play in a shirt that means so much to me is always going to be hard to pass up.
“I’m looking forward to continuing to give back to a club that has given me so much.”
Glasgow Warriors head
coach Dave Rennie expressed his delight at securing the flyer’s signature.
Speaking to glasgowwarriors.org,
he said: “Tommy is a world class back-three player and we saw that last season where I think he played some of the best rugby of his career in our end of season run-in.
“The club means an awful lot
to him and you can see that in the way that he trains as well as every time he pulls on the jersey.
“He is a model professional
and an excellent example to our young players coming through. We’re rapt that he has chosen to extend again.”
