Match Preview | Scarlets (A)
It was just the other week when Glasgow held the Scarlets to a 12-9 win at Scotstoun, but this weekend they meet again in the Semi-Final of the EPCR Challenge Cup.
Glasgow Warriors will be traveling all the way down to Llanelli, to visit Parc y Scarlets for Saturday’s kick-off. Glasgow are still unbeaten in European Competition and will be bringing all they can to continue that run all the way to the finals in May.
Both teams are strong ball carriers with the Scarlets leading 667 to Glasgow’s 662. The recent URC clash at Scotstoun was a different game for both teams due to the adverse weather conditions. Should the weather be fairer in Wales, it is expected that the game will also look much different.
Glasgow Warriors lead the EPCR statistic tables on both tries and points with 31 and 211 respectively. The Warriors also lead on defenders beaten, tackles made and conversions. Scarlets sit in third for both defenders beaten and tackles made and fifth for conversions. Scarlets also lead on clean breaks and metres made, both of which Glasgow are sitting in second.
These statistics highlight how well matched this game is shaping up to be. The two teams are competing to earn their spot in the final in May. The last two meetings of the two teams in the EPCR happened in 2015 with Glasgow winning 43-6 and 9-6 in both of those games. Both of these games took place in 2015, so it’s hard to use those as an expectation of how Saturday will shape up. What is certain is that it will be a battle between the two sides from whistle to whistle.
