Match Preview | Preseason Ulster (A)

Match Preview | Preseason Ulster (A)

Glasgow Warriors will be looking to continue their form after last weekend’s preseason win against Zebre Parma as they travel to face Ulster.

Last weekend saw many young players and new signings make their Scotstoun debut including Facundo Cordero and Kyle Rowe. Academy and partnership players also took to the pitch to add to the team while 16 players are away on international duty.

Last time out

The Warriors last faced Ulster in February where they came away with a win despite the weather conditions.  Tries from Sione Vailanu, Jack Dempsey and Fraser Brown kept Ulster at bay and maintained the Warriors winning streak at the time.

The last time the teams met the sides had been bolstered with players returning from International Duty during the Six Nations.  This time around both teams will be missing players, allowing for many younger players to get a chance to feature.

Both teams were knocked out of the URC in the quarter-finals and will be keen to get this season off to a strong stat with wins in preseason matches.

Opposition lowdown

Ulster will be hoping to win their first game of preseason after a close game against Bennetton that saw Ulster walk away with 22 points to Bennetton’s 24.

Ulster will be missing players who are on international duty with Ireland.  However, in similar fashion to Glasgow, they are likely to use this opportunity to give game time to some younger players.

In their last game against Bennetton, Ulster scored four tries form Timoney, O’Brien, McCann and Carson, all of whom could play this weekend against Glasgow.

Ones to watch

Following last weekends win over Zebre, the younger outfit of Glasgow Warriors showed they could cope well despite so many players missing.  Captained by Jamie Dobie, the side scored five tries, including two from new signing Kyle Rowe.

The young team will be aiming to continue their form, with Kyle Rowe keen to add to his strong start.  The team will likely compromise of many of the Glasgow Warriors Academy players, keen to show what they can do on the senior stage.

With the last outing between the side being scored by players who are not available, the squad will have to work hard to continue their winning form.
