FT: Connacht 34-26 Glasgow Warriors

Glasgow Warriors work through 18 phases of attack before knocking the ball on at the death, finishing the game with a single bonus point.


Glasgow bonus point

Kyle Rowe has another opportunity to inject some space. He then offloads to the supporting Jamie Dobie, who has a run in from 20 metres. This try gives Glasgow a consolation bonus point. Duncan Weir converts. 34-26


Glasgow penalty

Glasgow have another opportunity to gather territory with a dangerous collision from Connacht. The line outs one and Kyle Rowe injects pace into the space he sees.


Glasgow attack

The past five minutes has seen a sustained attack from Glasgow. They are holding on well and being creative to pin point holes and half gaps. But the Connacht defence is very effective not allowing anything significant through.


Glasgow penalty

Connacht make a tackle off the ball allowing the visitor’s to kick onto the home team’s 22. Johnny Matthews delivers a successful line out.


Pace increasing

Both sides are upping the pace of this game, looking to keep the ball alive and move it around the park quickly. Josh McKay stops one of these Connacht attacks with a big hit on his opposite man, straight into touch. Glasgow can now build from half way.


Connacht try

A long Tom Jordan pass is plucked out of the air by Diarmuid Kilgallen and he has nothing but space in front of him. He runs the try in from the half way.

Connacht penalty

Rory Darge jackals over the ball, but loses control of his body weight resulting in a penalty for Connacht. Forde opts for the kick and widens the home team’s lead. 27-19

The preceding maul is turned over by Connacht resulting in a scrum.


Glasgow penalty

A mix up over the number of Connacht players on the pitch results in a Glasgow penalty and an opportunity to put the ball deep in the corner of Connacht’s territory.

The scrum collapses and Connacht win the penalty. The kick from Forde is successful. 24-19


Connacht scrum

The home team are laying on the pressure, they win a scrum ten metres from Glasgow line. A big effort is required here to force a penalty or to turnover the ball.

Shamus Hurley-Langton executes a perfect turnover on half way, getting over Zander Fagerson quickly and cutting out any option to present the ball back.

Connacht try

It’s a second try for Connacht as prop Jack Aungier snipes from short-range. He touches down next to the posts giving the kicker a simple conversation to slot. Colm Reilly does so and the host’s edge in front. 21-19


High tackle

Connacht string together a handful of effective passes that really challenge Glasgow’s defensive line. Possession continues in their favour as Huw Jones is penalised for a high tackle. Five metre line out Connacht.

Rory Darge and Johnny Matthews come on for Gregor Brown and Angus Fraser.


Connacht penalty

Oli Kebble is pinged at the ruck for an illegal entry, off his feet. Prior to that the two sides where kicking them working through a handful of phases to gain ground and create an platform for attack. Neither side though had found any significant gaps, and the defence held tight.


Glasgow drive

Glasgow gather a Connacht kick and opt for the maul in the centre of the pitch. They’ve chosen this option a few times in the game, it’s been effective helping them gather up 15/20 metres.

What a half of rugby. End to end, highly competitive and full-blooded.

Glasgow lead 19-14 thanks to tries from Kyle Rowe, Tom Jordan and a penalty try – more to come in the second half!




On the stroke of half-time, Glasgow hit the front!

Vailanu feeds Horne from the maul, who in turn finds Jones on a short line.

The centre’s hands are superb as he feeds Jordan on the inside line, and the fly-half steps two players and goes over for the score!

Horne can’t bring the conversion around enough, but Glasgow lead 19-14 at the interval.


Glasgow lineout


Vailanu can’t hold a ball, but Blade’s chip ahead is gathered by Rowe, who turns and chips forward himself.

O’Halloran covers and Connacht clear, but at the expense of a lineout 15m out.


Glasgow replacement

Kyle Steyn is leaving the field here, to be replaced by Jamie Dobie.

Horne clears the turnover downfield, and back come Connacht again.

Kilgallon and Jordantrade kicks, before Farrell finds touch.

Jarrad Butler is also sent to the sin bin for good measure.

Knock on in midfield, so play is brought back for the penalty.

Time is stopped as both sides have a man down.

None is forthcoming, so back to the corner go Jordan and the Warriors.

Try Connacht

Connacht hit back – turnover ball allows Blade to grubber in behind and, while Kilgallon appears to push Rowe in the chase, the officials are happy and Connacht are awarded the try.

Hanrahan’s conversion drifts wide, leaving the score at 14-7.

Great chase from Steyn as he hustles Kilgallon into touch, and Glasgow have a lineout just inside the Connacht half.



Well that will 100% be one of the biggest slices of fortune ever seen in a Glasgow Warriors match.

Tom Farrell goes to leave the restart, but the ball ricochets off his boot and straight into the arms of the chasing Kyle Rowe.

The winger has a straightforward run in on his debut, and that’s the opening try of the afternoon!

Horne converts and it’s 9-7.

Glasgow almost through a gap out wide as they counter attack with McDowall, but Horne can’t quite gather the offload as he’s hit by Butler and Connacht have a scrum on their own 10m line.

A booming clearance from Stafford McDowall to open proceedings, giving the hosts possession back on halfway.

Hanrahan and Tiernan O’Halloran look to spark the play, but a big shot from Angus Fraser in midfield forces the knock on and Glasgow have a scrum on their own 10m line.
